Can the Internet Decrease Our Inspiration?
When I first started break-dancing back in the early 2000s, it was fresh and everything was a new discovery. This was partially because I had just started learning the dance but it was also because break-dancing was having a sudden resurgence and everything was new to everyone in the scene. The motivation was high and everyone was inspired to create new moves and having a blast discovering new things. Despite these discoveries, some of the break-dancers of the era focused primarily on fundamentals they've learned from older dancers and mastered these moves so well that they encompassed the moves rather than the moves encompassing them. They had different motivations, but the love for the dance was all the same.

I have been going to see live music regularly since I first entered adulthood. For many years, I was a genre-bending attendant of punk shows held in basements, warehouses, and (sometimes) legal venues. Punk music and its vibe is characterized by compartmentalized aggression, regardless of microgenre. But even when it came to moshing, head-banging, and the circle pit, there was a quiet code of conduct. Hardcore shows were probably the most violent. People in the pit kicked, swung, and slammed into each other as hard as they could. Tacitly, If you didn’t want to get slammed into, you stayed far away from people who were moshing and away from the inner circle that contained “the pit.”

You Actually Love Musicals— You Just Don't Know It Yet
I have this long-running theory. It’s a bit of a crazy one, but hear me out: everyone likes musicals. As someone who eats, sleeps and breathes musical theatre, I have met many a person who has told me they hate musicals. It’s always a struggle for me to not immediately launch into my seven-step program for converting anyone into a musical theatre geek. But I resist the urge to pull up Hamilton on Apple Music, and save my energy by just smiling and nodding. To each their own!
