70s music
The 1970s were all about sex, drugs and rock and roll; Beat welcomes you to our Disco Inferno.
Was Frank Zappa CIA?
One aspect about living in these exciting modern times that I still find surprising, regardless of how often I'm reminded that I should not, is how often "conspiracy theorists" are proven correct. Both on the left and the right, the things which lived in the shadows no longer do, and have the sunlight of citizen journalism and social media exposing much of what they do. On the flip side of that, you see how far they go to cover up other things as well; while the information may be out of reach, their efforts to keep the public at large knowing the reality of various situations, from aliens to islands, are not.

One Hit Wonders of Yesteryear Part 6
Another little series this one about one-hit wonders. It is surprising to note that all of these songs are memorable but just had their one shining moment for the artists and no other great hits followed. This is the sixth and last post in this series. The links to the others are below.

Pigs
Introduction I am not sure what inspired this, but there are more than a few good songs about pigs. As a teenager, I worked on a farm and thought it was quite funny when the piglets tried to eat my toes through my wellies and we all love the film Babe, don't we?

One Hit Wonders of Yesteryear Part Four
Another little series this one about one-hit wonders. It is surprising to note that all of these songs are memorable but just had their one shining moment for the artists and no other great hits followed. This is the fourth post in this series. I will add the links below as I go along.

Strangely Groovy
Introduction In the story below Caroline Jane did an Oliver Twist and asked for more. This is it. I wasn't to sure how to write something new and interesting about music. Caroline and I are fans of Nigel Blackwell and Half Man Half Biscuit, so I will try to include something from them in here but I hope that everyone discovers at least one thing they didn't know when they read this piece.

Introduction This is for Phil Flannery's Musical Challenge in VSS which you can read about below. The prompt is: I have written this as a challenge for the Vocal Social Society. Feel free to share the songs that you loved as a child but were unaware of their meaning until much later.

A Playlist Of My Birthday Number Ones
Introduction I was born in 1957 and the number one single at the time was the awful "Diana" by Paul Anka. Either side of that was "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley and "That'll Be The Day" by Buddy Holly and the Crickets, both brilliant records but we have to start with that awful dirge.
