Songs Of The Seasons
A Playlist Of Songs About The Seasons

Introduction
I haven't done a themed playlist for a while and with us being in Autumn thought I might create a playlist that relate to seasons either individually or collectively.
Although we only supposedly have four seasons, the difference between them seems to be blurring more and more. We can get frost and snow in June and Summer Sun in what used to be Midwinter.
So we will jump in with this classic:
The Zombies - "Time Of The Season" from "Oddysey and Oracle"
You have probably heard this on mady adverts, but is probably an early progressive piece and still sounds as good now as when I first heard it. Rod Argent went on to form his namesake band and became even more successful.
Crowded House - "Four Seasons In One Day" from "Woodface"
First, we had Split Enz who were successful, but when they morphed into Crowded House they really hit paydirt. Neil Finn is still very active today producing even more great music.
Donovan - “Lullaby Of Spring” from "A Gift From a Flower to a Garden"
“Lullaby Of Spring ” is about the happiness that comes when springtime is near. It helps you imagine the beauty attached to springtime.
Big Brother & The Holding Company, Janis Joplin - "Summertime" from "Cheap Thrills"
This is what Time Out had to say about this song:
‘Summertime’ is a gorgeous lie. As written by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward for the seminal 1935 American folk opera Porgy & Bess, it’s a lullaby sung by a poor young mother in the slums of South Carolina, assuring her child of a tranquil world that is nowhere around them. (Fish don’t jump on Catfish Row, and the living sure as hell isn’t easy.) Originally sung in a classical soprano range, ‘Summertime’ has been reinvented in many modes, including Janis Joplin’s achingly desperate 1968 version.
Manic Street Preachers - "Autumnsong" from "Send Away The Tigers"
This is a song that has appeared accompanying many of my poems that refer to the season such as this one:
The Housemartins - "I Smell Winter" from the compilation "Now That's What I Call Quite Good"
That is four seasons for you so far. I love The Housemartins but they went their separate ways. Norman Cook became Fatboy Slim and Paul Heaton formed The Beautiful South and now performs solo very successfully.
I wrote a Seven Days In Post about them seven years ago, which you can read here if you want:
Tori Amos - "Spring Haze" from "To Venus and Back"
I love Tori Amos's fragile beauty that she conveys in her music. This starts in that way before adding more instrumentation making you feel that something much bigger is awaiting, like a winter storm.
Taylor Swift - "Cruel Summer" from "Lover"
I'm glad I had the opportunity to include a Taylor Swift song, while I have none of her albums, I have many of her songs in my collection from soundtracks and compilations. I know many of my friends love her work and I have used a few of her songs to accompany some of my poems.
If you go to the Vocal Search box and put in "Mikeydred Taylor Swift" you will find them.
The Kinks - "Autumn Almanac" from "Something Else"
The Kins are one of the most English of bands and have been as influential, if not more so, than The Beatles and Rolling Stones.
The Bangles - "Hazy Shade of Winter"
I'll close this playlist with The Bangles cover of The Simon and Garfunkel song.
So that is two songs for each season and two general ones.
I hope you have enjoyed listening to these and thank you for reading.
