“I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” is a song that was recorded by the American singer Whitney Houston. It is the leading single from her album Whitney. The song was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. It became Huston’s first number one single on the Dance/Disco Club Play chart. The single was certified platinum by the RIAA. Houston won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
“I’m Happy to Just Dance with You” is a song that was written by Lennon-McCartney. It was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles for the film soundtrack to “A Hard Day’s Night”. Lead vocals are by George Harrison. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is one of only two Lennon–McCartney songs sung by Harrison during the group's career.
“Save the Last Dance for Me” is a song that was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. It was recorded by the American musical group The Drifters with Ben E. King on lead vocals. The song went to number one on the US Pop chart and also charted on the R&B chart. A favorite version of mine, and the video I included, is by Leonard Cohen singing this song along with his audience during a concert.
“Dance the Night Away” is a song that was recorded by the American hard rock band Van Halen and written by band members. It is featured on their 1979 album Van Halen II.
“Dance (While the Music Still Goes On)” is a song that was recorded by the Swedish pop group ABBA. The song is featured on their 1974 album Waterloo. This is the album that also included the song “Waterloo” which the group played at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest and won launching the musical career and success of ABBA.
“Dance Me to the End of Love” is a song that was written and recorded in 1984 by the Canadian singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen. It is featured on his album Various Positions.
“Last Dance” is a song that was recorded by the American singer Donna Summer. It is featured on the soundtrack to the 1978 film “Thank God It’s Friday.” It was written by Paul Jabara. The song became a critical and commercial success, winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and the Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. In 2000, VH1 ranked “Last Dance” number six in their list of 100 Greatest Dance Songs. In 2012 Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song at number four on their list of The Best Disco Songs of All Time.
“Dancing in the Street” is a song that was written by Marvin Gaye, William Stevenson, and Ivy Jo Hunter for the American vocal group Martha and the Vandellas. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It became one of Motown’s signature songs and the group’s premier signature song. A fun video for this song was done by Mick Jagger and David Bowie.
“Dancing in the Dark” is a song that was written and recorded by the American rock singer Bruce Springsteen. It was the first single released from his 1984 album Born in the USA. This became the best-selling album of his career. The song charted on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 charts. The song went to number one on the Billboard Top Tracks chart. Springsteen won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance.
“Dancing Queen” is a song that was recorded by the Swedish rock group ABBA. It is the lead single from their 1976 album Arrival. The song was written by Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. This is the only number one single for the group in the US. In 2015 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
