Intro

This is for all the lovers out there; all the speed racer meets Sunday cruisin' types, the opposites attract kind of lovers, whose real passion is the drive

Verse one

I can't believe I'm walking

In this breakdown lane, I'm walking

Because you and I just had a fight

Argument aside, you need to turn around your ride

So I can apologize and set this whole thing right

You're a hot rod city boy, I'm a cruising country girl

But our differences are much to my heart's delight

Chorus

I'm a backseat driver

You're a lead-foot kind of lover

But if we stick together

We can pace the miles forever

I'll try to see things your way

But you're speeding down the highway

Go on, look in your rear-view mirror

Ain't the message getting clearer

Our love's like tires, Oh, but friction burns

Let up off the gas, boy, and make a U-turn

Verse two

I can't believe I'm walking

In this breakdown lane, I'm walking

My pounding feet pay the price for pride

You like it faster, I like it slow

When I said to slow down, you said no

So I said to pull over and let me out of your ride

Chorus

I'm a backseat driver

You're a lead-foot kind of lover

But if we stick together

We can pace the miles forever

I'll try to see things your way

But you're speeding down the highway

Go on, look in your rear-view mirror

Ain't the message getting clearer

Our love's like tires, Oh, but friction burns

Let up off the gas, boy, and make a U-turn

Bridge

I'm just an old-fashioned country girl

You're a modern-day city guy

Each with different values and different views

I'll admit I made a spark with a snarky type of remark

That's why I'm out here

Wearing my soul on the soles of my shoes

But you like this spark, and without me

Without me, you'll be lost, lost and confused

Chorus

I'm a backseat driver

You're a lead-foot kind of lover

But if we stick together

We can pace the miles forever

I'll try to see things your way

But you're speeding down the highway

Go on, look in your rear-view mirror

Ain't the message getting clearer

Our love's like tires, Oh, but friction burns

Let up off the gas, boy, and make a U-turn

***

Like my cover image says, "Calling Carrie Underwood, Vocalist of Choice," because she is the person I envision bringing my lyrics to life.

But since I don't know Carrie, and I chickened out on singing- sorry, I can sing somewhat, but by no means would it resemble Underwood's powerhouse vocals-not even partially.

So, I turned to AI and Suno.

I typed in my lyrics and a basic text: country-rock style song performed by a powerful female vocalist. I received two versions and decided to share version two.

I started writing songs as a child, and poetry has always been my favorite genre of writing.

Albeit my result is not what I hear in my mind's eye, but it is what it is.

If only Carrie Underwood would hear my calling...

I have loved her voice since she first appeared on American Idol.

Here's a look at her first audition.

Thanks for reading and listening!

  • I still love this song, lyrics, image and tune… so disappointed it didn’t place in the challenge 🥲… it should be playing on the radio as I drive to work.😃
