I’m starting a series of songs that use English pronouns in their titles. I begin this with the most common one “I” and I am sure you would not be surprised to find out that there are a lot of songs with titles beginning with this pronoun. I will begin with one of the songs I would say started it all “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles. I hope you enjoy this series.
“I Want to Hold Your Hand” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. It is credited to the songwriting team of Lennon-McCartney. The song came out in 1963 and became the band’s first number one hit in the US charting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It became the band’s best-selling single worldwide.
“(I Can’t Get) No Satisfaction” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Rolling Stones. It was written by band members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The song was released as a single in 1965 and is featured on their album Out of Our Heads. It became the band’s first number one hit in the US charting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Becoming one of the world’s most popular songs it is on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
“(I Just) Died in Your Arms” is the debut single recorded by the English pop/rock band Cutting Crew. It was released as a single in 1986 and is featured on their album Broadcast. The song was written by frontman Nick Van Eede. This is a power ballad that became the band’s biggest hit and went to number one in the US charting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song also charted on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.
“I Am a Rock” is a song that was first performed by Paul Simon as the opening track of his album The Paul Simon Songbook released in 1965. The same year the American folk/rock duo Simon & Garfunkel re-recorded the song and featured it on their 1966 album Sounds of Silence. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the third single by Simon & Garfunkel to reach the Top 5.
“I Am I Said” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond. It came out as a single in 1971 and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts.
“I Am Woman” is a song that was written by Australian musicians Helen Reddy and Ray Burton. It was recorded by the Australian singer and songwriter Helen Reddy and is featured on her 1971 album I Don’t Know How to Love Him. The song celebrates female empowerment and became a feminist anthem for the women’s liberation movement. The song was at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the first Australian-penned song to win a Grammy Award.
“I’m a Believer” is a song that was written by American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond. It was recorded by the American rock band The Monkees in 1966 with lead vocals by band member Mickey Dolenz. It went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the last number-one hit of 1966. The song also topped the UK Singles chart in 1967 and was featured in four consecutive episodes of the TV series The Monkees.
“I Can See Clearly Now” is a song that was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Johnny Nash. It is the lead single from his 1972 album of the same name. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts.
