DAVIDO: "A GOOD TIME" review.

Shekpe!!!!!

By Adelegan Adebowale Published 5 years ago 3 min read

Davido is the new sensation and talk of this generation when it comes to a lot of topics apart from the familiar entertainment scene with which he is associated with. His style, presence, bogus lifestyle and swagger puts him in the news time after time.

His new album titled A GOOD TIME which was recently released on the 23rd of November 2019 features a number of international artistes(Popcaan, Summer Walker, Gunna, A Boogie with tha hoodie, Chris Brown) and a host of artistes signed to his label DMW (Dremo, Peruzzi, Yonda) amongst many rising Nigerian Artistes (WurlD, Zlatan, Naira Marley). What got me to put pen to paper regarding this album was the controversy that stirred up after the release of the album on social media. A lot of people were so quick to conclude that they were not feeling the album or it was not a well put together project for an artiste with such standard.

For an Afro pop project I can strongly say it is a top notch project. The purpose of writing this article is not to change anyone’s taste in music but simply to appreciate the album from my own perspective. To be more exact, Twitter was a playground for both his fans and music critics who had much to say about the album. Personally I’m of the opinion that putting together an album is not as easy as it might seem to most listeners who are at the consuming end of the entertainment chain. Davido is arguably one the most hardworking artists of our generation. He had not only worked hard on growing as an entertainer individually, but also collectively passed the torch onto emerging acts in the Nigerian music industry where such is either scarce or non existent.

I listened to the album with an open mind trying to picture him in front of me with a band performing each track one by one and I was astonished at the smooth ride I had while feasting on the records one after the other. As an artiste I know a song is more than three minutes listeners would usually consume, it is hours of perfecting your takes and being on key as well as adding the right back up in the right spots amongst many other process. Which is why I have to give credit to DAVIDOS team and A&R/Creative executives.

It is safe to say that Davido has owned the Afro Pop genre. You would literally bop your head without even knowing the lyrics to the songs yet and when you finally want to learn the lyrics, they’re listener friendly in the sense that they are things you’ll hear daily or words that one is familiar with which keeps you happy and want to move your feet. Big shout out to the producers( Shizzi, Speroach Beatz, Tekno, P2J, Fresh VDM, London on Da Track, Seyi,Teekay Witty, Ray Keys, Vstix, Kiddominant) and everyone who worked on the album. Thank you for giving us good music yet again. It’s standard that DAVIDOs music is not for everyone but if you’re ready to move your feet and really have “A GOOD TIME” then ignore what that your friend is telling you and go get the album, listen and be the judge of whether or not it’s not a well put together album.

I have carefully selected my favorite tracks on the album and they’re listed below:
