Blackbird Fly (The Song)

My first official single release

By Rick Henry Christopher Published about a year ago Updated about a year ago 3 min read

On July 3, 2024, my friend Jenni Lonmon from the super-popular South African pop-rock band Little Sister played a few songs her sister Debbi Lonmon created using an AI music creator called Suno.

I was impressed at how good the songs sounded. My interest was definitely piqued. But I didn't do anything with it as my mom was experiencing anxiety and I was up with her until 6 am the next morning, July 4th, 2024.

I slept most of the day, I woke up just in time to hear the rumbling of the 4th of July fireworks. I finally did a Google search for Suno but I found a different app called MusicAI. I created two songs that sounded good then I turned off the computer to go to sleep at about 3 am.

The next morning I opened the MusicAI app to have some fun creating music. But the app was not working. So, I tried searching for Suno and still couldn't find it. Therefore I decided to search for Suno AI and I found it.

MusicAI was now a distant memory after 20 minutes with Suno.

Over the next few days, I created a few songs using the lyrics from some of the songs I wrote when I had my bands GreenHouse and Thunder Lizards in the 1980s and 90s.

Then it came to me that I could turn some of the poem ups I published on Vocal into dongs. The first one I tried was "Lilac and Rose and Indigo Blue" which several people had commented on the lyrical sense of the poem.

After "Lilac and Rose and Indigo Blue" I remembered that I had written a short poem for my short story series "Blackbird Fly." I added some extra words and reformatted the poem into a song lyric and once the song was created it was like magic. My friend Tiffany Gordon immediately fell in love with the song.

I connected with a distributor and on July 31, 2024, I released "Blackbird Fly" as my first single on The RHC Music Group label.

"Blackbird Fly" is gaining a minor bit of momentum with an average of about 40 streams per day on Spotify and an overall average of about 85 streams daily between all the streaming sites. However to make it onto the Billboard charts "Blackbird Fly" would have to be streaming an average of about 110,000 streams per day. I am nowhere close to that. But the song is making some minor movements.

Over the past three weeks, I have been strategizing with a team of four people to figure out what to release as my second single and which songs to put on my debut album release

Right now the music industry is taking AI music seriously. An AI-generated song is currently #48 on the charts in Germany, the world's fourth-largest music market.

Will any of my songs make it onto the music charts, maybe or maybe not. But, I am confident that my songs are of hit quality and I am sincere in my quest to create something that becomes a hit song.

In the meantime, I am grateful to have an outlet with which to create songs. I am having tons of fun doing this and I'm learning quite a bit about the future of music creation.

Music has always been part of my life. At the age of seven, I used to serenade this little French girl who lived a few doors down. She loved it when I sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You."

My obsession with music started at age of twelve (1972) when a friend of mine played the song "Bless the Beasts and Children." I was mesmerized by Richard Carpenter's stirring piano work and Karen Carpenter's soothingly smooth voice.

I started writing my own songs in 1976. I had a little portable tape recorder to record the songs on. I don't have any of those recordings anymore, but I must have written about 60 songs or more between 1976 to 1980.

My first official band was formed in 1984. I considered music to be my career until 1994. I did not achieve any success but I did make a dent on the local music scene in Southern California.

Hey, Rick Here I am on my continuing process of discovery. I thought it time to finally read some of your work because of your commitment to Vocal+ Assist plus your encouragement of me as a writer. I’ve certainly moved off the liniar path of the Rick Henry Chrtooher story (Perhaps the problem was a sleep in between!) Somehow in another piece I downloaded ‘Blackbird fly’ from Spotify, then moved onto reading your poem ‘Lilac and Rose and Indigo Blue’ while listening to my spotify download ‘Blackbird fly!’ Somewhere read the lyrics. But I think I know how to find them now. I love you writing here. The feature, journey and the delightful anecdote - ‘the age of seven, I used to serenade this little French girl who lived a few doors down. She loved it when I sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." - Pauline ♥️

BTW Rick----you said 'dong' instead of song "Then it came to me that I could turn some of the poem ups I published on Vocal into dongs. The first one I tried was "Lilac and Rose and Indigo Blue" which several people had commented on the lyrical sense of the poem". Or did you mean dong? 🤣

Well done! Must be quite a different process with AI.

Great work! You are leading the way in how to use and publish AI music. Don't understand youtube, sometimes I get a few thousand views for videos of the family hamster. Youtube Shorts "pushes" music (like TikTok) so you don't need to have subscribers in advance... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6U93GSq76DY
