The Four Nines
Just last fall after the snow had already begun, my brother and I had driven out to cowboy country to visit John Ware's original homestead location near Millarville. There is nothing there anymore that would tell you he lived there except for a cairn. My brother and I like going on hikes, but with the new snow we decided to go look for a piece of history instead. We'd actually gone there with my dad as kids. My dad was very impressed with John Ware's accomplishments against the odds in his life, and I suppose I was and still am too.

I'm an Old Goat
Ever since I was a child, I have been old. I remember always helping with my younger siblings and helping my mom clean up and wanting to learn more such as how to wash clothes with the old wringer washer (I don't think that is your average child's interests, but it was one of mine). The skills I learned served me well when my dad died at my young age of fourteen years old. The old Capricorn was built for this type of a tragic turn of events.

Adventures of A Six Year Old
When I was a child, my best friend Monica and I used to have our adventures mostly on the way home from school. I think back to when I was around five or six years old and realize I had way more freedom than my grandchildren do now. I used to ride public transit to my grade one class with my friends, and I don't ever remember being afraid. I also remember giving Monica's brother the slip after school many times, so that we could walk home at our leisure; or we'd take the bus halfway home then get off and walk the rest of the way.

Hidden benefits
Although this week is marked by the US election, in Canada we also vote to bring in our government. When I was younger before I could vote, I always used to wonder why everyone seemed to get angry when discussing their vote. Like with everything else in our lives, we have our own opinions. I don't think that anyone can say one party is their exact vision, so we go with what's really important to us and which party holds more of those ideals important as well.

Phantom
I have had many pets since I was a child. While I was growing up, we had cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, snakes, newts, budgies and I'm probably forgetting some. My dad was an animal lover and passed this along to us as children. He was a pretty fair man to humans too.

Norma
As a lover of Halloween, I wouldn't be true to my love if I hadn't been an actor in the haunted houses that the masses flock to every October. My love of Halloween started at a young age although really I can only remember it from being school aged outside in the dark in a costume. I recall not being afraid of the dark, but feeling elated at being outside in a costume when I usually would have been inside. I still feel that spark to this day.

Halloween Costumes
I was running down the street as I had forgotten my wallet at the cash desk in the Halloween costume shop. I was hoping that I'd find it there untouched or behind the counter. How could I be so forgetful and with important things too. The other day I forgot to take my keys out of the car and the doors were unlocked. Anyone who tried could have gotten in and drove off. Thankfully I spotted my wallet on the cash desk and ran to it to check if everything was there and with great relief, I saw that it was all there. I didn't have a lot of money in there, so that was the least of my concerns. I was worried about losing my ID and my family pictures.

Fall Food Memories
I anticipate October every year not only because I love fall; it is my favourite season of all, but also because I love Halloween. This love affair started when I was a child and continues to this day. I'm now a grandma of three who shares this love with my three grandchildren. When I was a child, we went trick or treating for our goodies, but as an adult I try to make fun and quick or pre-made meals before the trick or treating night out. They vary every year; the one thing that doesn't is that I try to make them hearty as we usually have snow, and the temperatures below zero Celcius.

Everyone seems to have skeletons in their closets, and I don't know what's worse - keeping them in that closet or letting them out. Sometimes I think people are in so much fear of anyone seeing those skeletons, they lose perspective. In reality I think that keeping them hidden away can create a much worse scenario.

Ghosts
In our world of electronics, pandemics and imbalance, there are some things that remain the same. Take this picture for instance. My granddaughter and I were walking around an old cabin on a tourist site here in Calgary when we took some pictures inside one of the cabins. We took multiple pictures inside, and this one seems to show seven or maybe eight darkened oval shapes that remind me of heads. Another picture show what looks like one person standing with one oval shaped head, but this one could be the family.
