Stephen Crane's short story still baffles me
From Wikipedia: " "The Blue Hotel" is a short story by American author Stephen Crane (1871–1900). It first appeared in 1898 in two installments in Collier's Weekly, on November 26 and on December 3, 1898. It subsequently was republished in the collection The Monster and Other Stories. It is one of the most well known of the short stories in the collection The Monsters and Other Stories. Although it appears to be a reasonably simple tale about a man who encounters trouble following a stay at the Palace Hotel, several complex themes underpin the story and define many of the overarching themes in novels like Maggie: A Girl of the Streets and more generally, Crane's corpus. Stylistically, the story breaks free from the norms of the period, often entering the realms of Expressionism, an unusual style to encounter in American literature. "

Smut Page 101 - magazine hot story
Selina rarely ever wore make up, so when she was sitting in front of her vanity carefully applying her eyeshadow and lipstick, the gods above knew where she was going and what she was looking for. She was like a hungry tiger looking for some soul food after a starvation period that went on far too long for a broken heart after a break-up. She carefully looked at herself in the mirror. Her flaming red locks were curled at the bottom at her shoulders. Her hot maroon lipstick had been applied perfectly to her plump lips. Her violent green eyes sparkled as if she was a teenager kissing a boy for the first time. She smiled into the mirror, happy with her appearance.

Personality versus Outward Appearances
Some of you may be wondering why I chose to use an artistic depiction of a tire swing to coincide with an article that is on the topic of human superficiality. I think I'll explain it like a parable. The tire swing is not your typical swing found at most parks. There have been many man-made swings, but the standard swing is not meant to spin and is designed in most cases for one person to sit on. The tire swing is unique because not only is it an upcycle (saving the planet from tires dumped at the bottom of the ocean or rivers) it also can carry two children, swing back and forth, and spin for delirious enjoyment. I think of the tire swing the way I think of how people can sometimes get bent out of shape regarding how people look. Some care nothing about it, while others care too much about it. Most lack a good balance. When someone isn't by standard definition of "attractive" or "beautiful" they are often described as having a great personality, to soften the judgements of those who have not met the person before and introduce them as desirable regardless. Let's say a standard swing is the normal definition of "attractive" or "beautiful", and the tire swing has a great personality. Now you understand the connection.

Does a Quote ever hit you the wrong way?
The Quote read: You are keeping yourself from the life you want by feeding the life you don't want. While it seems simple or obvious, this quote disturbed me as I applied it to myself, my life, and my truest desires.

Car Obsession and the Expenses of Transportation
Have you heard of a business called AutoNation? It's a car dealership and more, and I think their name is absolutely genius. AutoNation. Yeah. That is so accurate. People who know me personally know that I've been a licensed driver since 1987. I personally have owned over 10 used cars in my name over the years. I've had American cars and foreign cars. I've seen all kinds of mechanics and paid for all kinds of repairs. I've been a member of AAA and AARP and I discovered that AAA is better for a used car driver. As a driver, I've had some traffic violation tickets in 37 years of driving, paid them and/or went to driving school to be reminded about safe and defensive driving. Over that 37 year period, I have probably spent in car payments, car insurance payments, gasoline costs, and repair costs, enough to have afforded me a brand new car in the range of 50k. I like that new Ford Bronco... the price tag says it's only 30k. Ha ha ha.

I think I may have to vote
I wasn't upset when they told me that I couldn't vote anymore. I didn't want to go through the red tape to reinstate my voting privilege. I figured there's no way to ever vote for the right person, and I don't trust the voting system anyway. I've had my opinions about my country, the structure, principles, constitution, legislation, and history. I've been watching things change since the Reagan administration. I could recap all the follies of every Presidency I've endured since 1971. But I won't waste your time with my skewed historical summary. Instead, I will just say that of the three "taboos" (sex, religion, and politics) Americans seem quite satisfied taking on religion and politics, but they are still the most hush hush and hypocritical when it comes to sex.

Are you as confused as me?
Everyone who knows me knows that I am a big fan of the HBO show Game of Thrones. I thought George R.R. Martin was a genius, and I thought the team that brought us the show was simply brilliant. I refer to that show very often as I got to know all of the main characters very well glued to each episode and rewatching it on DVD multiple times.
