Giraffe Slide
Eight feet looking down at sparkling yellow under the sun while I stand at the top of the climb from a tail ladder. The giraffe neck slide in the Merriweather zoo was where I loved to look out over all of the exhibits. The joyful place I was first taken as an excited little kid. The playground here is animal themed with a giant giraffe slide, koala seesaw, cheetah zip line, and monkey swings. Many adults like me still come to slide down the giant slide that many children have to build the courage to fly down. There are other smaller slides here like the duck bill and frog lily pad slide that are about three and five feet, but nothing can beat getting to slip down the neck of a giraffe, something that was usually only possible in cartoons.

The Blushing Purple Princess
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. They look as though they are sparkling above as the lightning sparks through them. An ugly storm has lately been getting ready each night that looks like magic. Every magical tale can be explained by science. Magic is just the glitter or sugar that coats every part of how horrifying life can really be. We all need to coat everything in something, just like the sand before me to create a castle. There must be enough water that doesnât dry to keep the castle together. Water is also the very thing that will wash the castle away later as the waves charge higher into it. I finish the mold of the castle right as my sister Gigi walks up behind me. âHelen, why are you creating a castle right now? We need to get inside and up. Donât you see how the sky is warning us,â she points back to the beach house.

Wormhole to Wernher
The grandfather's paradox was what I was thinking about while suiting up to pass through a wormhole to go back in time. No one had gone back in time before until now because it takes tons of energy to send even one person through time and there is no way to really know if it would even do anything. As in change what happened in the past. Can we really stop anything from happening as one person going back to warn people? Possibly not. I might not even be able to remember my life here in the future. The past will just become the now. A different now. No more 2023. I close my eyes as I am set up to launch into the wormhole. My comrades pat one last goodbye to me as they push me into the little ship. Before this moment we ate one last lunch together as they hoped they would remember me. Jack and Parker were like brothers to me. I chose to do this because I am the only one who doesnât really have family. No wife, no children, and my parents passed away long ago. I only have my work colleagues that I am now hoping to make proud even if they donât exactly remember who I am or if I will even be able to get back to see them. I hear a whoosh! and feel as if my body is discombobulated before losing consciousness.

Beguiling Blue
Beguiling Blue was the name of the hotel I booked for my stay in enchanting paradise. A strange name that I believe could mean that you would be charmed and feel hopeful here in Santa Monica while staring over the dazzling beaches and then would have to go home back to your usual life again. Tricked by all the beauty and sparkles. The sparkles were already currently in my cup as I started the morning of my trip with morning mimosas and crisp, ripe fruit. The strawberries were so full of flavor it made my tongue want to melt into the same red to become one of the fruits itself. âMore strawberries Mr. Kyle Hartie of Hartie Enterprises?â the waiter had the gorgeous red plumps staring at me from the platter.

LineLoot
It was a pleasure working with you, but we will no longer be needing your services at this time. Lailaâs heart dropped as she read the email to the end of her job. It didnât make much income, but it at least kept her afloat. She didnât know what to do with her life at that point. She liked how the job was remote and flexible to where she didnât have to make a commute to arrive at a workplace every day. There must be something else out there similar to this so that I can have the type of job that I would like to work, she thought to herself. She searched online for what could work and came across a job where you are a warehouse person for small businesses because of how they do not need or cannot afford giant warehouses across the country. It was a company called LineLoot where you would receive packages, take pictures of the contents, and then pack and ship them out. The job only paid monthly instead of bi-weekly like most, but it was a small price to pay for being able to work from home.

Santa's TP Sleigh
What does everyone want for Christmas this year? Wouldnât it be bundles of toilet paper? Right as Coronavirus cases flare up, more people go out to buy toilet paper and other essentials they will think they need for a long period of being stuck in the house, so the stores may possibly be out or just not have the nicest or softest toilet paper that people would like to have. The inspiration for this Christmas card came from the thought of several people sitting down to write Santa a letter and it to say, âAll I want for Christmas is the softest toilet paper you can get me.â Then when Santa fills his sleigh with all of this cushion, he would not be able to stay awake during his flight. He is usually riding with toys and other cold, hard, and uncomfortable goodies that he can usually stay up with them pressing into his back, jolting him awake. This year though, he will have a harder time because of how cozy the toilet paper feels behind him.

Sweet Wine Glaze
The lights of the tree sparkle while I place a grapefruit and pine wax melt on the tray of the warmer. I flip the switch on, ready to smell the fresh scent of a real Christmas tree without needing one mixed with the fresh smell of citrus. I then turn on soothing orchestral Christmas music that flowed through house while the wax slowly melted down, releasing the scent while I take a deep breath and smile. I walk to the kitchen and pour myself a glass of red wine. The same wine that I will use to make the glaze for the ham I just brought in from the grocery store. The perfect pairing of salty and sweet goes great with all of the sides that I know the family will be preparing. Deviled eggs, potato salad, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, and cranberry desserts would be carting in later today as the perfect compliments for the tender ham.
