Song Review: 'Toosie Slide'Why Do People Like Drake?
Drake is truly a phenomenon that remains a mystery to me. I’ve attempted reviews of Drake before and they’ve all degenerated into a confused string of expletives as Drake’s appeal continued to elude me. Now that he has the number one song in America once again I have to try again to crack the code of Drake. Oh, this is a challenge. Toosie Slide is yet another baffling bit of nonsense in which Drake sleepily name drops fashions and Michael Jackson.

Classic Movie Review: 'Eurotrip' The Comedy Everyone was Supposed to Forget
Waking up in the month of April 2020 amid a quarantine and the fear and uncertainty of the world, it was odd to open Twitter and see ‘Scotty Doesn’t Know’ was the top trend on one of the biggest social media platforms in the world. As a closet fan of Eurotrip, I recognized the phrase right away as that film’s running musical gag. I had assumed however, that the rest of the world had forgotten about this remarkably minor early 2000’s comedy. And yet, there it was.

Movie Review:'The Death of Dick Long' Surprisingly Human Dark Comedy
The Death of Dick Long was not what I was expecting it to be. Based off of the film’s trailer, I assumed The Death of Dick Long was going to be a dark comedy about hillbillies covering up their buddies death. That is part of the story, for sure, but what I didn’t expect was the level of humanity and drama in The Death of Dick Long. Instead of portraying well known redneck tropes, The Death of Dick Long gives these characters depth and dimension.

Music Review: Kelly Clarkson 'I Dare You'
Sincerity in pop music is tricky. In the wrong hands, sincerity becomes saccharine, cloying or manipulative. It takes a well established and beloved artist to offer something heartfelt and intended for uplift. Kelly Clarkson, in my opinion, is one of the few modern pop stars capable of pulling off sincere. Kelly has cultivated a persona that is genuine, trusted, occasionally divisive but always appearing authentic.

TV Review: 'Making the Cut' Episode 8 Brand Evolution
I am among the last people that anyone would ask about fashion. My wardrobe contains only one tie and it has a zipper in it. So, why am I reviewing the fashion reality series Making the Cut? In all honesty, Amazon sent me a screener and I had nothing better to do. I am a professional film critic by trade and there are currently no theatrical films. I have a lot of time on my hands and the desire to write and be read.

Classic Movie Review: 'From Hell' Starring Johnny Depp
For over 100 years the mystery of Jack the Ripper has fascinated millions. How could a man brutally murder 5 women and get away with it? Was it a lone psychopath, or a conspiracy among many men? The Hughes Brothers’ 2002 film, From Hell, offers its own controversial theory. And a very entertaining theory it is, even if it's not entirely historically factual.

Movie Review: 'Just Mercy' Sturdy Moving Real Life Court Drama
Destin Daniel Cretton is a filmmaker of subtlety and style. His Short Term 12 is a low key masterpiece about the issue of adoption, abuse and what happens to older kids lost in a system out of their control. Cretton followed that up with bold box office failure of The Glass Castle, a quite good drama that was unfortunately too drab in its approach to material people absolutely adored in Jeannette Walls’ wonderfully confessional life story.

Song Review: 'Circles' by Post Malone is Pop Perfection
I would not say I qualify as a fan of Post Malone. I haven’t heard much of his music, despite his ubiquity, and I haven’t given much thought to what I have heard. Premise established, I love Circles. I adore this song. Yes, Circles is a very, very simple song. Yes, there isn’t anything groundbreaking in lyric or sound. I cannot stop listening to Circles. The tight bass line, the feathery light guitar and organ. I love it.

Song Review: Dua Lipa 'Don't Start Now'
There is no end to the power of a deep bass groove. A great bass groove could make a Donald Trump COVID-19 briefing sound good. Dua Lipa’s new single, Don’t Start Now, has an incredible bass line. It’s derivative, it’s the kind of bass line that defined the best of the disco and funk era of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, but that doesn’t change the fact that the bass line is an absolute killer.

Song Review: The Weeknd 'Blinded by the Light' is an Aural Time Machine. Top Story - April 2020.
I want to live inside the synth track on The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights. Growing up in the 80’s, I feel like I did grow up inside that synth track. The Weeknd has taken us all back in time to 1981, the founding of MTV and the ascension of new wave. It’s beautiful, man. Often I have wondered if it were possible to recreate an aesthetic in art perfectly and The Weeknd has done it.

NBA Twitter Celebrates the Apparent Demise of John Paxson
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that the Chicago Bulls are actively seeking a new top basketball executive. In other words, Thank U John Paxson, NEXT! NBA Twitter is celebrating as only this snarky, schadenfreude-loving, maniacs can. As a Chicago Bulls fan myself, I am completely here for this, lapping up every nasty, flippant, insulting moment of it. Let’s go to the twitter pile-on of all twitter pile-ons.

Movie Review: 'The Other Lamb' is a Stunner
The appeal of The Other Lamb is difficult to describe. This unique drama from Polish director Malgorzata Szumowska doesn’t fit any traditional genre description. The film is defiantly non-traditional in presenting a story that relies heavily upon visual cues and mystique. The Other Lamb is unquestionably brilliant and yet nebulous.
