Somers Season Comes to an End on No Hitter

Not quite, the Mahopac starter completely jammed the Somers GPS signal. “Their guy is legit, we couldn’t get anything going,” said Coach JT Genovese after the winning pitcher threw a no hitter. But Somers didn’t help themselves either in the 3-0 loss.

But a bloop RBI single in the fifth, a home in the sixth and four straight hits in the sixth suddenly had the game feeling way too close for comfort. Out went Mitch Hammer, Jack Garneau entered with one thing on his mind. “I wasn’t going to let the seniors go out like that,” said the reliever, and backing up the boast started with a slow bouncer to short.

But the player at X has more than one sister on this team, and in a very specific case, no synergy is lost to the fact that the duo doesn’t share chromosomes.

With her family and cousins in one corner, she said, “I was trying to hold back my smile.” But the audience didn’t have a chance in that regard, and the lead actor’s mom expressed the inevitable extension of the joyous sentiment.

Nonetheless, both teams moved the ball and made some very exciting plays in the first half at Mahopac High School. But neither team scored, and leaving the second half to settle matters, it was a series of big plays that made the difference.

Quarterfinals in the afternoon, sundown had both teams facing the darkness in the bottom of the seventh. Bases loaded with one out and a 3-1 lead to preserve, Eliot Arbogast got the call after six and a third innings of Jacob Storch mastery. A hefty ask, the reliever didn’t waiver and had answers John Jay needed.
