John Jay Girls Lacrosse Opens with Win
On Thursday March 22, John Jay opened the season and found themselves in an intense back and forth with visiting Pelham. A cold, windy day, the weather didn’t stand a chance against a team looking to establish their identity, according to coach Jess McDonough. “They want to be known for their relentlessness,” she said, and Pelham was the first to find out.

Swee Brand Works Holds their Own in B League with 7-6 Victory over Tompkins Community Bank
Please see pledge, subscribe and tip button below After winning the C League regular season last year in Somers Men’s Softball, Swee Brand Works lost in the playoff finals to Tompkins Community Bank. The team was asked to move up to B Division nonetheless, and did so with some hesitation, according to Chris Swee. "Knowing the level of competition, we were a little nervous,” said the team manager. But their actual performance has proven that move was within range.

So on Friday January 20 at the Brewster Ice Arena, the tables were turned and the Quakers had a 4-0 first period lead. Maybe on script, John Jay scored first in the second, but a replay was not to be.

Somers Can’t Run Back Comeback versus Suffern
Please see tip, subscribe and pledge button below On Friday February 22, the quarterfinal matchup between Somers and Suffern was a game of runs. After Somers went on a 20-4 outburst to go up 20-8, Suffern countered with a 26-4 scoring spree. Leaving the Tuskers trailing 34-24 in the third, the elephants looked on the verge of being stampeding out of the gym. Instead, said Coach James Loughran, “We never quit.” But despite the senior leadership he credited for the team’s resolve, the hole was just a little too deep.

After Strong Start Bisons Fall 9-3 to Pawling

A 3-2 lead late into the first, the Bisons were definitely holding their own. But the Tigers ended the period with a 4-3 lead and the momentum didn’t stop.

Gymnastics Team Takes Section One Title and sends Three to the States

Undefeated in the regular season, the girls kept the winning going.

John Jay Falls to Nyack in First Round of Sectionals
On Friday February 16, John Jay traveled to Nyack for the first round of the sectionals and came off the bus with their engines revving. They ran the break, hit the open player and converted their layups and jumpers. Good for a resounding 24-13 second quarter lead, the wheels on the actual bus looked ready to return home in victory, but Nyack had other ideas.
