But the sedentary change in venue doesn't detract from putting all that kinetic energy to good use. “I like working hard,” said Puccio, and the three-sport athlete has now been rewarded for her drive.

John Jay Gives Second Seeded Byram Hills a Run for Money in First Round Loss
Byram Slideshow On Tuesday February 20, John Jay faced Byram Hills at the Brewster Ice rink and at 6-14, the Wolves were the clear underdogs to the second seed. Still, the boys scored first and held a 2-1 lead deep into the second. So the glass slippers were out for a potential Cinderella run, but in the end, the shine on the Bobcats’ footwear proved too much.

Outbracket Game has John Jay Fall in Overtime to Rye Neck
After playing an even first half in the out bracket game versus 12th seeded Rye Neck, John Jay fell behind by a dozen in the third. Refusing to give in nonetheless, the Wolves came back and forced overtime on Wednesday February 14. So five more minutes added, the boys definitely didn’t shy away.

Somers Wrestlers Take 4th in Section One Tournament
Sunday, February 11 was day two of the Section One Wrestling Tournament at the County Center, and five Somers Wrestlers were still alive. Three reaching the finals, only one came out on top, and in the waning seconds of the deciding match, the Tusker looked up in the direction of his family to signify that he was halfway there.

John Jay Wrestlers Close Season at County Center
Please see tip, subscribe and pleedge button below On February 10 and 11, the County Center in White Plains hosted the Section One Wrestling Tournament, and John Jay was there to finish their season. A few on the cusp of qualifying for all-section and a few that got the honor, Coach Will Carter was already looking ahead to next year.

Somers in the Class B division, the Tuskers flew pretty high, according to Coach Taylor LaRusso.

Last Friday when John Jay faced Yorktown at home, the team didn’t look as crisp as in past games, and a 49-32 loss put the girls themselves in pursuit of a readjustment. “We ignited a fire, understanding that we’re in a lull in our season,” said Jaime Bartley-Cohen. “We need to bring it up.” And the change was immediately noticeable when the Wolves faced Hen Hud on Monday, February 5.

On Thursday January 4, the bowling teams went to Cortland Lanes for matches against Hen Hud and Briarcliff. Unfortunately, the girls hit choppy seas versus the first place Sailors and were shutout 7-0. But the boys had better luck versus the Bears.

John Jay/Somers/Yorktown Gymnastic Team is already in Stride
2022-23 Photos Please Click : The start of any new season always means the old reliables graduate from the scene and holes are definitely left to fill. The John Jay, Somers and Yorktown gymnastics team is no different, but head coach Teodora Cepoi is seemlessly taking the losses suffered in stride. “We have other kids coming up to replace our graduates,” she said, and so far the results prove it is not simply a coach being optimistic about the prospects for the season.

John Jay/Somers/Yorktown Complete Third Straight Undefeated Season
Please see tip, subscribre and pledge button below On Tuesday January 30 John Jay, Somers, Yorktown faced Scarsdale High School at Dynamic Gymnastics in Cortlandt Manor and took the meet by a score of 183.35 - 141.65. The regular season coming to an end, the postseason is just ahead for the combined team of girls. But Kayla Cambareri of John Jay High School probably wasn’t alone in expressing a sentiment that is not quite ready to look forward to the post season.

Somers Heads into Big Week with two Blowouts
After going to Brewster on Wednesday January 3 and putting on a 63-22 hurt on the Bears, the Tuskers hosted Saunders on Saturday morning and could have been thrown by the early morning rise. But Somers came out with their trunks swinging and didn’t miss a beat.
