Nom de Guerre
Bio
A wayward seafarer only truly found on the deep; all at sea when on land.
Creative writing is a hobby I aim to professionalize as the next step in my career quartet - soldier, sailor, writer, rogue.

Red Between the Lines
The rain-darkened sky intensified the neon lights prancing across puddles on the pavement. The sizzling of the grandiose marquee was audible from the street. The man slipped the valet a note before surrendering his rumbling chariot to the valet’s keeping. He bounded between the murky voids seeking salvation under the restaurant’s awning. The door attendant looked the man over like a wet dog. The wet overcoat ruined his image temporarily, but he wouldn’t let it ruin the evening. Foreign food would do that.

Navigating the Pain Game
“Candidate One-Zero-Eight, out of the van,” the unseen driver barked. I disembarked hastily from the back of a blacked-out moving van and hustled towards the silhouette in the adjacent clearing. The tacticool ball cap rattled off two series of numbers before dismissing himself. On bended knee I raced through a few calculations and scratched a few figures on my laminated map.

Untested Solutions for Tomorrow's Problems
Ah, Spring. What a remarkable time of year, when the melt is in full bloom and the blossoms are in full buds, when the birds are chirping and the bees are buzzing, when the sheep are lambing lambs thanks to “the birds and the bees”, when the rabbits are copulating like rabbits to the soundtrack of chirps and buzzes through a sort of reverse anthropomorphism, and when, while all the little critters are getting down and dirty, you realize, on bended knee, scuzz brush in hand, that the Spring cleaning really ought to have been done during Winter so you could - instead of getting down and dirty in the kitchen - go voyeuristically watch your woodland neighbors bump uglies. Ah...Spring.

Containment Plan
“Three shackles paid out!” Smitty roared into his radio. The forceful expulsion of breath called for a refreshed gulp. A gulp like a fish out of water for the air was befouled with red dust. He spurted a curt curse as aerosolized rust particles rode that wild coaster, the WindPipe Express. This ship, he decided, anchored much too frequently.

Unprincipled Error
“The total amount, A, equals the principal, P, multiplied by the summation of one plus… where n is the number of times interest is compounded…” I feigned Herculean effort and grunted like I had just successfully squatted mom’s minivan. Mr. Purdue’s Advanced Algebra was my final labor. Pass the exam, and summer was mine.

Short-changed
“C’mon, Billy!” He snapped his gaze up from the palms of his hands. His heart leapt into his throat, his stomach sank. Billy’s body was already riding the roller coasters right beyond the amusement park’s turnstiles. Two sets of anxious, questing eyes savaged Billy to the brink of tears.
