Giants of Viridity
Sunlight rays pooled and flashed through the train car: a movie reel of all the living that dared to venture out of the caves. Scene after scene played out in each and every cabin. Condensation in Cabin 18 was collecting and forming droplets that raced down the glass, leaving frozen trails behind. Aida traced one of the paths with her fingernail, making swirls and zig zags against the glass as far as she could reach while remaining on her perch. She began to create skeleton trees and cobblestone paths on the fogged glass. The shifting of the vapor made new droplets, and the constellations fell and smeared the water mural the same as the others. For a moment she was captivated, but reality rushed back when she looked at the bleached spot of skin on her ring finger. The varying tint was a reminder that she was going home alone. She sat back and pulled her jacket around her tighter; attempting to hold the chill of solitude within her bones. She allowed her mind to wander through the trees in some subcategory of meditation. She laid her head back in a peace that can only be achieved through hard work.

Somewhere in the Trees
A four note cord echoed over the topaz autum trees. Screams of joy and fear collided as the amber glow of the lights illuminated the secluded valley. Orange fliers with "FREAK SHOW" scribbled on them littered the road as people wandered between games and amusements. I sauntered to an empty tent and found a seat in the dark. A ring of fire revealed a single man. His pointed beared glimmered and matched his suit in the golden glowing light. I felt I had dreamt of him before. His lips curled into a smile, "Welcome to the Circus, we were waiting."

Graffiti
Crumbled brick and chipped mortar littered the ground of the library and mazed through the sodden books and shelves that were now turned to shrapnel. Vanilla, and sweet grass perfumed the air along with the musk of dirt and gunpowder. The library used to be a refuge for Nero when he was a boy. Now, it was a refuge again, and a makeshift hideout in his attempt to survive. He wasn’t a soldier; he was different, and his strengths weren’t of the physical type. He had a mind that many would envy, however, others saw him as damaged.

Playing with Pyros
The aerosol can hissed and sprayed chemicals across the living room; igniting instantly. The trail of flames eventually engulfed the brown suede couch, crimson curtains and gray carpet. Lodin ran out the back door just as the rest of the cans he had planted began to pop and rupture with the rising heat. Once outside, he walked through the alley and examined the back of the house. He enjoyed the yard, and he thought that she would too because she had talked about how much she wanted a big yard for future kids and family dogs. Amidst his admiration of the smoldering house, he heard voices and knew people had already begun to gather for tonight’s show.

Brick and Bone
The world was not ending with a bang, or a whisper, but rather one scream at a time. Crumbling bricks, stones and ash crunched under the truck tires as the vehicle rolled to a stop. He cut the engine of the F250 and the rumble echoed through the narrow buildings. The forest green machine rolled forward and stood out against the tan and gray ruble that littered the city. The sloshing of fuel in the extra cans in the bed were the only noises that could be heard over the crunching of the rubber on the ground. Torin opened the door and moved quietly to the edge of the disintegrating bridge once the vehicle came to a stop. Peering over the side, he could see the colonies of people far below and how they were growing more aggressive; desperate. Their skin began to harden and shimmer like fire opal and glass as the bacteria began to take over their organic flesh.

Lacey adjusted her apron and straightened the fabric with the oven mitt that was covering her bandaged hand. When she had met her, the other woman, she had lost her mind and ended up smashing her coffee cup on her granite countertop. Lacey grew tired of walking on eggshells around her husband because he always would complain about her attitude or temper. The anger she had overflowed and made up for the time she had spent keeping it locked up. She would fix that now.
