Coming to America
I love the smell of skunk. I know, I know, but I am one of those people. I actually had a discussion once with a member of the DuPont family, they of the "better living through chemistry" mindset, asking if that was important, and she slowly reached for her cell phone to call relatives in the perfumery department... I had to break her heart by telling her I'm allergic to alcohol. Thus endeth my illustrious career as a nose that should have been the toast of Europe, insured for millions by Lloyd's of London.

Alice Cooper Saved My Life
Another true story from the annals of my bizarre life... Alice Cooper saved my life. Not kidding, he really did. So I may have mentioned that if a friend has to move, my husband and I are there with bells on to make sure that said friend is well and truly MOVED. If said friend is in danger, my Fierce Protective Friend Meter ratchets itself up to eleven, and you'd better believe that, come heck, high water, or vagaries of life, you WILL be moved.

The Apothecary's Shop
Mary stepped out into the garden, and surveyed her coming harvest with satisfaction. The neat rows were filled with all sorts of herbs - lavender, feverfew, lemon balm, sage, rosemary, chamomile, bee balm. Bees buzzed in the drowsy heat, making the flowers nod more than the slight wind that was making the leaves tremble.

Aftermath
Margarete sighed, and rested the graver on the bench for a moment. Remember, this is for your son. She stretched, but not too far. The leather apron she wore to collect any gold dust from the engraving process was nailed to the bench corners. Crumbs must be collected. No waste in what was left of this guild house!

The Eye and the Heart
My dad hates fish. Seriously. He almost kicked me out of the house this past Mother's Day, because hubby and I had the temerity to bring a nice slab of salmon to their house and pan-fry it in lemon pepper. Because Mom requested it, for MOTHER'S DAY. He ordered us not to. Mom had A Chat with him on the subject of what food is consumed by the person whose party the day is for. He gave in with extreme ill grace.

Phoenix and Obsidian Part 2
Neval had the crew take just the two of them to one of the remote islands. "I've already asked, and no one owns this island. Not enough here to own, really. The volcano's still quite active, a few plants have grown, a constant breeze, and surrounded by water. No drinkable water, though. I brought some for us. It's a little different than the desert, but maybe more balanced for you. Would you try to duplicate the spell, and I can observe, and we'll see what happens?"

Phoenix and Obsidian Part 1. Top Story - May 2023.
Gerala knelt underneath the hollow shell of a sevanda tree, under the baking sun. Here in the desert, at mid day, there was nothing to see - except the shadow of two hopeful vultures circling high above. Well, they can wait a while more, she thought. I can do this.....
