The 97%
If you have Tik Tok or you have any sort of social media I'm sure you've seen somewhere the 97%. Well, what is the 97% anyway? This number represents the percentage of women age 18-24 that have been a victim of sexual assault and/or harassment. Let that sink in. I'm sure many of you reading this are in that age bracket and if not, I know all of you know a woman between the ages of 18-24. Guarantee she is in the 97%. I know I am and I know that almost every woman I know is a part of it.

What I think about Tiger King. Top Story - April 2020.
This past week I decided to watch Tiger King because honestly I was just curious what all the hype was about. I remember the day it came on Netflix and it was listed as #1 in America for a couple days. I looked into it but it didn't really seem that interesting to me. It wasn't until my coworker, Seth, instigated me writing this opinion piece that I finally decided to watch it.

10 Artists That Should've Won Artist of the Decade
1. Selena Gomez was at least a better option than Taylor. (2010) Selena Gomez was my childhood idol. In 2010 she released her A Year Without Rain album. The album included our favorite hits: "A Year Without Rain," "Round & Round," and "Live Like There's No Tomorrow." In 2011 she released When the Sun Goes Down leaving us with her catchy song, "Love You Like a Love Song." In 2013 she released her album, Stars Dance. This album sent us into a repeating Gomez spiral with "Come & Get It" stuck in our head and "Slow Down" on replay. In 2014 she released For You. This album included all our previous favorites and introduced "The Heart Wants What it Wants" and "Naturally." Mid-decade she released her fire album, Revival. This album included fan favorites: "Good for You," "Kill'em with Kindness," "Hands to Myself," and "Same Old Love." In 2015 she also became the face of Pantene hair products. In August 2016 Selena cancelled half of her tour because of anxiety, panic attacks, and depression caused by her lupus. At the 2016 American Music Awards Selena received Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. In 2017 she collabed with Kygo and created the single, "It Ain't Me." Not to mention she created her single, "Bad Liar," which turned out to be everyone's song of the summer in 2017. Following that she created Fetish with Gucci Mane and Wolves with Marshmello. In 2018 she made single, "Back to You." In the beginning of 2019 she created "I Can't Get Enough" with Benny Blanco, Tainy, and J Balvin. Throughout the rest of this year she released two sneak peaks from her upcoming album we will see January 10, 2020. She let us hear "Lose You to Love Me" and "Look At Her Now," which if her upcoming album is as good as these two songs, it's gonna be fire.

Binge Drinking
Over the past couple of years, binge drinking on residential college campuses has become an emerging problem. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, alcohol abuse seen in college students (ages 18-24) causes about 1,700 deaths, 599,000 injuries, and 97,000 cases of sexual assault every year. Binge drinking occurs widely throughout our society but mostly occurs within the college setting. The pattern however reverses itself when it comes to which students are drinking. Studies have shown that the students who typically weren’t drinking in high school are now the ones that can’t stop drinking in college. Much of the problem relates back to the hazing that occurs at college fraternities and sororities. The levels of binge drinking amongst college students seem to be much higher in college settings with Greek organizations.

The Inequalities of Being a Woman
Women’s rights have been a topic of discussion for years and some progress has been made. However, in today’s society, women still face inequality in the following categories: media, education, and the labor system. Men and women receive two different educations because of the way each gender is treated in the education system. Following the education they received, these men and women enter the workforce under the impression that they’re under equal standards. Yet, the gender pay gap still highly exists today. Finally, our media focuses on women in such a negative way, leading to mental health problems that we see in the women’s population today.

9 Times Glee Tackled Real Life Problems
Throughout the series, Glee has tackled some serious problems teens are facing everyday in their high schools. Most of these problems are not easy to take on, and I give credit to everyone on the cast of Glee that made the show such a great hit and influence among teens everywhere.

Eliminate Animal Dissection
From 170 different species, millions of these helpless creatures are being dissected in schools each year. The American Anti-Vivisection Society states, in one year, over 12 million animals are used in high schools alone. Some of the most commonly used animals are frogs, mice, rats, worms, cats, rabbits, baby pigs, dogs, and cows. Most schools and universities purchase these species when they’re already dead, but they were killed to be dissected. Many of these animals are purchased through slaughterhouses and fur farms, but animals like cats are purchased from "Class B" dealers who take animals from shelters or "free to good home" ads. In other countries, cats are purchased in Mexico, then killed by drowning or slitting their throats, then sent to the US. In some facilities, they put the frogs in bags while they're still alive, killing them by suffocation. Some rats are embalmed while they're still alive. This is animal torture and abuse. These animals are deprived from a real life and raised to do what? Be cut open for 30 minutes and then thrown away.

Woodstock 50th Anniversary
As some of you may know, this year marks the 50th anniversary for the 1969 iconic Woodstock music festival. This peaceful musical love affair will return to us this August 16th to 18th in Watkins Glen, New York. Tickets will be going on sale April 22nd, but prices have yet to be announced.
