Mizuwari and A Deck of Cards
Anicka kept her heavily made-up eyes ahead as she pushed through the pedestrian ridden streets of the Roppogni district. Although water proof and more expensive than a couple fancy dinners, the heavy rains and oppressive humidity of Tokyo still forced streaks of the mascara and eyeliner underneath her eyes. Drops of water fell from the overcast sky providing a slight cooling sensation her back. She put her hand on the butterfly knife she had recently purchased, the heavily shaded alleys and dizzying neon lights not enticing her to let her guard down.

Where the Chips May Fall
Drips of condensation streamed down the glass of bourbon as he swirled it around, observing it as if it were crystal ball revealing forbidden knowledge. Cora coyly watched him from behind the bar, intrigued with the unusual man who had come in for the second night in a row. It was rare to see a new face in the quaint town this time of the year. Snow, blizzards, and monotony encompassing the small waterfront community that only came to life in with hordes of tourists in the summer. As of now Lake Winnisquam, normally the focal piece of the place, was just a mass of shimmering frozen ice.

Sociedade do Touro Furioso
The city clung to the hills like an old story, layered, labyrinthine, and whispered in stone. Coimbra, veiled in dusk, was all shadows and memory. Its narrow lanes, slick with age and the day's rain, wound downward like secrets eager to be told. The cathedral, massive and austere, loomed above the Rio Mondego as if carved from time itself, its towers catching the last light like sentinels reluctant to sleep.

The Toadstoolz
The backstage area was stifling, possessing an aroma of musty pizza and perpetual body odor. We sat on the splitting leather chairs, anxiety and excitement trickling from our hearts. I never thought someone like me would end up in band, especially with my two best friends. My life usually banal and my talents few and far in-between. All that changed after unearthing a peculiar package in my backyard one midsummer night.

Spaceship of Mistaken Identity
He bolted into the dining room, saturated in a metallic grey slime resemblant of adamantine. Zolo, my best friend since childhood, never avoided getting himself into wild shenanigans. Often putting himself in some sticky situations, yet I had never seen such a look of alarm upon his face. I put down the rag I had been using to clean up the mess of guacamole that the child of a customer had decided to utilize as paint, the table his canvas.

Dearest François
The crickets and toads united in a jovial nighttime symphony on that balmy summer evening. Carmela sat in her room, immersed in her book as she often did, hoping for a night free from confrontation with her father. Even with the light off and herself tucked into bed, she knew it didn’t always deter him from barging in. She winced as she heard the floor of the hallway creak under his step—the ice cubes clinking into a glass, the cap unscrewing from the bottle. His muttered profanities were a blur of vile words she tried to block out.

The Small Organic Herban Garden
Living in the middle of a city can sometimes makes it difficult to spend sufficient time among nature. Having recently moved to a new place, I was overjoyed to a have an outside area that I could turn into a plant sanctuary. Though small, I have maximized space by choosing the majority of my plants specifically for their unique abilities, whether as an amazing addition in culinary applications, for their remarkable health benefits, or to keep pests away. Gardening in general is excellent for one’s physical and emotional health, while creating a unique space filled with the plants and décor of ones choosing provides a serene space to enjoy.
