Mosquitoes are the deadliest animal on planet Earth. Their primary food source is protein and other compounds found in the blood. They kill over 700,000 people worldwide. They are known for carrying many diseases such as Zika, West Nile Virus, and Yellow Fever, just to name a few. Of the 3,000 types of mosquitoes, 176 live in the United States. Only 200 of the overall known species attack humans, leaving painful itchy bites every day. Sometimes these bites can lead to deadly infections. 75% of U.S. homes have air conditioning. It is responsible for 6% of the overall electricity we use. Air conditioning, or AC, is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space, making it more comfortable. The electrical AC unit we love in the summer was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. Today, it is a luxury we’ve grown accustomed to having in our homes. Today is World Refugee Day! A day when we honor those who flee their home country to escape the violence and terror there for a better life for themselves and their family. Today is the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. A drought is a continuous period of dry weather that causes less than the normal precipitation level for an area. The weeds are nature’s way of covering the bare ground. They spread easily as their seeds are specifically designed to spread everywhere. They are opportunistic and aggressive, meaning they will germinate, grow, and propagate faster than any other plant. 8,000 of the known 250,000 plant species are classified as weeds. That’s 3% of the horticulture universe. Weeds can wreak havoc on a garden if you don’t get ready of them quickly.
