New Year, Same Shit

Confession From a Girl With Daddy Issues
So only my therapist knows about this, but I feel like I should tell a bunch of strangers about it. I always thought my parents were married, but one day while I was looking for my social security card for my new job I found out that my parents were actually divorced. They threw in the towel shortly after I was born and for the next eighteen years pretended like they were still together. I should’ve known there was something wrong when my mom refused to sleep in the same bed with my dad. Even long after I turned eighteen they pretended to be married.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a city slicker for most of my life. I’m used to 10 story buildings and skyscrapers towering over me and the streets filled with people occasionally bumping into each other trying to commute to work. However I’m not used to struggling and living humbly.

Dear Ma, Where do I start- oh yeah- you’re the reason why I secretly started therapy last year. Remember my anger issues? Of course you do. Remember when you beat me into suppressing my feelings? No? I figured you don’t, but I do. Every time I have my tantrums, you would always bring out the belt. You thought you did something. Well, you did. You taught me that my feelings don’t matter and you wonder why I gatekeep all my secrets from you. You wonder why I don’t want to spend time with you. You wonder why you’re the last to know about everything going on in my life. You always overreact to everything. Remember when my sister first brought a guy home? You don’t? That’s so funny, because I remembered you embarrassed her by telling him that he could do way better than your own daughter! Really ma’am? Congratulations! We’ve already decided to put you in a nursing home.

There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Then again, there weren’t always dragons in a small God fearing town of Emberville, but here they were. A few months ago, a couple of these beasts decided to target a small ranch house in the middle of nowhere surrounded by acres of land, bordered by wooden fences separating the property from the woods.

Last year, an admin on a Facebook group I’m in started a playlist. She invited every single member to submit their favorite songs onto said playlist. To say that we went all out would be an understatement. Over a thousand members within this group submitted at least twenty if not more of their favorite songs from their personal playlists, ultimately creating a mega playlist.

Volcano Child
When I was a little girl, my 2nd grade teacher told my mom that I have a tantrum worse than a toddler’s. My mom - angry and embarrassed- told her that she’s going to straighten me out. Did she take me to therapy? No, but let’s just say there’s a belt with my name on it. This method worked for my older sister so it should work for me, right? Not exactly and the crazy thing is I still remember that day as if it happened yesterday. The pain I felt after the spanking and the lesson I learned: my feelings don’t matter.
