How We Owe Everything To A Spark Of Pure Genius
Being a baby boomer, I go all the way back to a time when for us poor folk modern technology consisted of a kettle with a whistle to call your attention to the fact that the water had reached boiling point for making a pot of tea. In many ways, we have come an awful long way, and yet I'm not so sure about calling it progress.

A Day In The Life
As I write these words I am all too well aware that I do so on borrowed time. Every morning I open my eyes more than a little surprised that I am still around, at least for now. This is not without some cause since I have had quite a few close shaves and now for sure have more years behind me than ahead.

On Riding A Donkey With A Monkey On Your Back
In May 2020 I decided to start writing on Medium, more in hope than expectation. It was either going to be the ruin or the making of me as a writer. One year on and I have to admit that although it started out as the former, of late has perceptibly moved closer to the latter. Bookending the experience, my first paycheque for June last year was the princely sum of just 0.31 cents. One calendar year on, my paycheque for this May/June is 590 dollars (which includes a 500 dollar bonus). Added to this I have been paid another 65 dollar bonus by Vocal Media, which I heard all about from Terry Mansfield here on Illumination. Whichever way you slice it, 665 dollars is a darn sight better than 0.31 cents.

3 Things You Need To Be A Successful Entrepreneur.
I have read many articles like ‘The Seven Things You Need To Be A Successful Entrepreneur’. A polished powerpoint presentation, a business plan, business premises, marketing research, financial capital, etc, etc, etc. Bullshit.

In Music Commercial Success is a Fickle Mistress
As a singer-songwriter with three solo albums to my name, so far fame and fortune have eluded me. Having said that, it was never about the money anyway. Like lots of artists, I do what I do for the love of it. That being said, it would have been nice to at least recover the costs of making all of those albums. Due to keeping to a very tight budget on production costs for the first two albums (Nobodies Pet and Live and Unsigned') I have thankfully more than recovered the costs for those. The one that I am still in the hole for is the third, 'Lost and Found.'

In The Pursuit of Happiness
So here I am wondering what more I can write for this writers platform. And not only what can I write, but what can I write that will improve my stats? Not that I want to get hung up on that particular element. But one doesn’t want to ignore it neither.

The Thousand Year Old Man
I have to confess that my friend and fellow writer and editor Carol Price has set me off on this course of speaking a little of growing old. The thing is I don't feel old and there's the rub, none of us do. My mother continued to work as a cook in a private, residential home for old folk. She worked until she lost her sight, at the grand old age of 78.

How To Live A Good Life and Make Pesto Sauce
My very good friend, fellow editor and writer, Carol Price, wrote an excellent piece recently about how women should prepare themselves for a life alone. Carol's premise is based upon the fact that women outlive men. I love the pragmatism of Carol's thinking. However, I also think men should prepare for a solitary life for the simple reason of the possibility of being left alone after a divorce.

Living With Homosexuality
Just to be clear from the start, I am not in any way shape or form homosexual. And yet, as will soon become clear, I do know quite a lot about it due to the fact that thirty two members of my family, immediate and extended, male and female, are openly gay.
