Chosen
The Life Of A Writer Is Lots Of Hard Work And A Little Inspiration. In all honesty, I really don’t feel that I chose to become a writer, I think it was more of a case of it choosing me. Something, or somebody, reached down from the sky and touched me and that was it.

The Undercover Writer
As some of you may have already guessed, although I am Ralph Emerson here on Vocal Media, I am also Liam Ireland on the Medium publication, Illumination. In fact, neither Liam nor Ralph is my real name, both are pen names for the purposes of writing on Medium and Vocal incognito.

Unspoken
One day last week my boss pulled yet another late evening session. That usually meant him sitting at his desk going over the fine details of whichever case he had coming up in court the next day. Meanwhile, I was expected to quietly go through the filing cabinet pulling out the relevant files and placing them on his desk at just the right moment. We never spoke out loud during those long evenings because he saw conversation as superfluous. He knew his job and he knew that I knew mine, and that was all there was to it, or so it seemed.

Digging Up Chapters and Short Stories
One of my favorite poets of all time is the winner of the Noel Prize in Literature (1995) Irish Literary Legend, Seamus Heaney. Whereas another great legend Ted Hughes wrote the poem 'The Thought Fox' to describe how he goes about writing a poem, Heaney wrote the poem 'Digging' to describe his choice to be a poet, instead of following his father's footsteps, digging for peat in an Irish bog.

Discovering The Mysteries of Life
Since I started writing three years ago here on Vocal Media, my writing has developed quite dramatically. The part that has perhaps changed the most in that time is my fictional stories. However, let me start at the beginning of my writer's journey before I go too deep into the present.
