The Time Of My Life
It was a beautiful summer’s morning in the middle of June, a day that is etched in my memory for all the wrong reasons, though it started promisingly enough. For a start, it was my birthday and the sun had his hat on and was coming out to play. My three young children were already up and about, waiting for me to get up and go downstairs to make them some breakfast. My wife was ahead of me in the bathroom, so I made my way downstairs to tend to the kids’ needs for some chow. Already thinking about the day ahead and what it might hold in store for me, I had a spring in my step as I descended the two short flights of stairs.

How To Die Healthy
Well, it is now two and a half months since I started to try to lose weight. My problem was I had too much visceral fat which was not leaving enough space for my lungs to fully expand. For that reason, I was getting easily out of breath and suffered from sleep apnea. Not good.

The Long and Winding Road
A chapter from my memoir. It was December 1975, a few days before Christmas, when the boss told us all to go to the 'Fill ya Boots' pub at lunchtime. He said that he had a very nice surprise for us all as a thank you for all of our hard work. We presumed that he was going to give us all a well-deserved and much-needed cash bonus.

The Emporer's New Clothes
The Emporer was sitting on his throne in his magnificent invisible suit, musing upon the day's events. The parade through the city had all gone very well indeed, save for some stupid boy who had blurted out that the Emporer was wearing nothing at all. And although at that point the throng of people realized that they had all been fooled, the Emporer proudly continued with his majestic parade to keep up the pretense.

The Starry Night
Never has a painting so captured the public imagination. This visionary, expressionist work of art even inspired a very touching hit record by the American recording artist, Don Mclean (Vincent, 1971). As one historian observed, the painting absorbs the viewer into the cosmos whilst standing on the threshold of eternity.

Contact
A highly underrated film about alien contact. If you enjoyed Close Encounters, you will love this. The special effects are a sight to behold, as you can see in the above clip. Based on a novel by Carl Sagan, the science has a great deal of credibility. Just watch it.

Oppenheimer And Barbie
What a bizarre paring of two blockbuster movies; one a celebration of a man who dedicated his life to the science of annihilation on a global scale, the other, the celebration of the none-life of a child's plastic toy. Death, destruction, and superficiality. A celebration of foreign and home affairs.

A. Hard Day's Night
A Hard Day's Night not only perfectly captured the so-called Swinging Sixties with its hilariously zany, mad-cap style, but was also a highly influential musical film inspiring spy movies, tv shows, and many pop videos to come. It is a classic rock and roll movie with lots of great songs.

Poltergeist
A normal family in an ordinary house, an innocent child watching tv, what could possibly go wrong? Suddenly, a ghost's hand malevolently reaches out through the tv screen to grab the child. What ensues is the scariest series of events ever captured on film. Terror has never been so realistic.

Across The Universe
Across the Universe is a cosmically mystic, beguiling, stream of semi-consciousness, with Lennon at his philosophical, poetic best. Nothing could be further removed from the unthinking Mop Top Pop of She Loves You. The song is a highly introspective spiritual rendering, utilizing abstract imagery, lush orchestration, and an angelic choir.

Across The Universe
Words that float across time and space, into my ear, my mind, and my life, inviting, inciting, and beguiling me. Sounds of angels and heavenly violins, the voice of a god expunging sins, blessing and expressing me. Rivers of sorrow, oceans of joy reflecting a million suns, across the universe.
