The Special
The rain pelted the window as Sarah wiped the smudged coral lipstick from her chin and swigged more wine. She was in her underwear after an argument with the "effing" wardrobe. The clothes rebelled and took it upon themselves to be horrendously displeasing right before the date. She was wearing Hello Kitty briefs, which no man would ever see. She liked to think she had self-control but a failsafe was necessary. She fumbled frantically around a scabby handbag. A slightly smooched cigarette emerged that had probably been festering in there since 2014. She lit it with the bubble-gum scented candle on the dresser, as lighters were lost to time and many pub smoking areas. In a buzzed nicotine haze, she decided to wear a glittery silver dress and matching heels. It wasn't love at first sight but she didn’t want to rip it off and cry, a significant improvement from the last five outfits the mirror had seen. She grabbed a clean pair of knickers in case her failsafe failed, lipstick, a year-old toothbrush, an umbrella, and keys and clomped out the door. The restaurant was five minutes away but Sarah had never heard of it. It was empty, aligned with plastic tables and chairs, each tablecloth decorated with different farmyard animals. He was sat at the giddy goats, wearing an elegant lilac suit and a cheeky smile. The choice of location should have been odd but she was happy with anything, as long as the food was free, for her.

Tegid's Journey. Top Story - January 2024.
Tegid stopped for a moment, gazing at the landscape adorned in sparkling white. Faint patches of green battling their way to visibility against the bitter hands of the gods. An amber hue emanating from the rectangular house in the near distance. She was ever intrigued by these extraordinary houses and fascinated by those behind their walls. Tegid continued, the soft crunch of her boots falling into winter’s gentle embrace, steps imprinted briefly in time. She delighted as crisp air filled her lungs and her breath resembled that of a dragon’s. The silky strands of her hair glistened as they were kissed by fading sunbeams. A swift and biting breeze greeted the fluffy white hills, the snowflakes swirling, entangled as though they were dancing. Most of the houses looked miniature, the snowdrifts stretching, threatening to creep over their windows. This could nearly make her forget the true enormity of the people inside them. Those who brave the Northern Sea, fighting for a morsel of what the waters can offer. Tegid wasn’t long estranged from the sea's sharp temper, however, she noticed how strangely peaceful it seemed with a silvery blanket settled all around. She felt a chill pinch at her ears and tip of her reddened nose as an impulsive gust impishly tackled. Chuckling, she pulled herself back to her feet as she reached the peculiar house. The door opened, her face warming from the fire inside. She entered, behind her the sunlight fled and the snowfall virtually seemed to disappear.

Banished
He slinked as though he were a leopard shadowing its prey. Precision in his steps as he tried to balance. He looked at the ice blanket below his feet, his heart sinking as his life perched on a thin veil between verglas and water. His breath was visible in the atmosphere and his sweat cascading down his face despite the sharp frost running through his veins. His eyes darted towards the distance with desperation and longing and promptly fell again to the ground when he saw nothing but more ice. Since the snow queen banished him from the kingdom, he hadn’t felt the warmth of another, he hadn’t heard the hearty snort of his father or felt the lumpy coziness of his mother’s stew running down his throat. The memories of his beloved family were no distraction from imagining the piercing fangs of deepwater wrapped around his body. The snow queen's reign of icy massacre and frost-covered force had been unrelenting since the disappearance of the opposing merfolk.

Kedgeree
History Kedgeree, a meal with an interesting backstory and tantalizing taste, what more could you desire? When I think of delicious food with a cultural background, kedgeree leaps into focus. As lockdowns dragged on across the globe, I began to realize how little I had tasted my nations cuisine. In fact, my knowledge of Scottish food was limited to the likes of haggis and shortbread. This sparked the idea for my partner and I to try kedgeree. Not only did I feel connected to Scotland through this dish but I also gained a longing to travel to India and treat my taste buds to their traditional foods. Yes, that's right! The origins of Kedgeree intertwine with two nations. So lets start at the beginning shall we?

Doctor Barnowl
“Sit over there. he’ll see you soon” said the guard as he thrust her through the door. R began walking through the velvet red hallway, guards in black suits, faces covered by white masks lined on either side, looming over her. She wasn't afraid of them, she saw them as mere pawns. The hall seemed to gradually narrow as she approached the waiting room. Dishevelled raven hair covering most of her face, a gleam of aqua blue eyes, and crooked smirk in vision. She sat across from a disgruntled old man and a young innocent looking boy.

Limbo?
October 29th, 08:10 am It's a crisp October morning. I am running late for work. I do not like being late. I pick up speed. My heart feels heavier than the weight constantly attached to my shoulders. A weight in the form of a black figure, who's hands are constantly attached to my neck. She feeds from me. I have learned to ignore her, I try to forget she is there but I can always feel her, clutching to my body like a leech.

Transition Art. . Second Place in For You Challenge.
As 2020s impending madness creeped upon us, I decided to download TikTok. I primarily made it to browse political content. My For You page flooded with feminism, Black Lives Matter and, of course, the odd cat video. I found myself addicted to the content, ever swiping. Video after video after... you guessed it! Video. However, one day it struck, as my girlfriend was making us dinner, to make a TikTok. This TikTok would be made in honour of our love, it would be made to see her smile at me as she came back with food for us to share and it would take me all of five minutes to edit.
