The Mother
Why doesn't she flame? Why doesn't she take back her baby and burn me to a crisp, and the whole forest with me? Her enormous black snout inched through the circle, from her world to ours. Her long neck snaked behind it. The obsidian bulk of her beyond that blocked any view I might have had of the world where dragons live.

The Return
The dragonling lay on my chest. No longer curled, but lying pitifully on one side, irridescent green flank heaving. I'd discarded my t-shirt, since his scales had cooled so much they no longer burned. I hoped the warmth of my own body might help to stop him cooling even further.

A Story Every Day - Prompts for February 2024
February is almost on us, so here are some prompts for you for your brain to mull on! Reminder: The aim is to post a short story (microfiction) EVERY DAY in 2024. Here's the post about it, and the follow-up. Word limit is 366 (minimum count 300) The prompts are aids only, not challenges (unless you want to use them that way). It doesn't have to be perfect. Hopefully a decent standard, but not perfect. Perfection is the enemy of creativity, no? The idea is to get the juices flowing. Stories that are short and sweet, and plenty of them. There's a way to keep your streak going if you know in advance you won't be able to get online on certain dates

Storm in a Teapot
Those who know, know. Tea is not just tea. The tea is the life. It's not just the caffeine and tanins that perks you up and mellows you out. It's the whole ritual. Really boiling the water, brewing the tea, selecting exactly the right mug. Wrapping your fingers round and sipping while it's hot.
