Hyphid
Cador worked furiously. He was close, so very close! He could feel success at his fingertips. While a unanimous vote of the Nolic counsel had outright rejected his research and theories he knew, He KNEW, the primitive intelligence of the Boid Hyphids were more, so much more. The Nol had encountered the Boid eons ago but had disregarded their meager intelligence as just above animalistic. In the initial findings the original scientists called them a parasitic nuisance. “Idiots.” Cador said to himself while he worked.

The Spark of the Ancients
The smoke burned his lungs. With every breath came a searing sensation in his chest, followed by violent coughing that sent daggers piercing through his chest. Marc rubbed at his eyes and tried desperately to take another breath when he thought the smoke had thinned. His breaths came in ragged gasps. The breaths he could take felt like a hot coal in his chest. He tripped, barely catching himself.“Momma!” He cried, looking around at the billowing smoke, the intense flames, the bodies. His shout instantly became an uncontrollable cough. Tears welled up in his eyes that smeared the thick soot that covered his face. “Momma!” He screamed. “Papa!” His small, tiny voice barely penetrated the sound of crackling wood, the clang of steel, and the tumult of the grown men and women fighting, dying.

Fearing the Unknown
Throughout many stories, whether they are written, spoken, or watched on a video screen, various aspects can be taken from each work and applied to our lives. In my life, I have always had a fear of the unknown whether it be the first day of school and facing unknown teachers, new potential friends, or enemies or sometimes even what the future would bring based on a single life decision. In House Taken Over by Julio Cortazar, the house is taken over by unknown assailants for reasons not given to the readers. In much the same this has happened to me where the consequences of a life-changing decision took over my house, so to speak, and in the long run, altered my life forever.

College Success
There are many important parts or ideas that make for success. People go to college because they want to become something. So what happens when they find a class that they don’t like doing? Whether it be homework, a professor, or any other aspect of that class if a student doesn’t like the class they will find it hard to progress and to do well at that class. The most important thing about being successful is finding something in the class that interests you. Many students get so caught up in the class and how much they hate it that they forget why they took the class in the first place. If students remember that they took the class to develop their skills and ultimately excel in their profession it will help students do a paradigm shift and change the way they think about the class. Along with that, some classes are just plain tough. That’s where persistence comes in. So often when faced with something challenging, students and many people throw their hands up and toss in the towel. College isn’t supposed to be easy, but it is worth it as most anyone who has ever earned a degree can testify. Another thing students can do is to annotate. There are many benefits of developing this habit that are often over looked when the word annotate is mentioned. One such benefit is the ability to use the notes of the paper instead of having to read the whole thing all over again to find one specific point that you liked. The use of these key skills will help any individual seek success in college and for the rest of their lives.
