To Eternia
It had been another rather fruitless night in customer service (at least it had been at the "fun" customer service job and it was a weekend). I had clocked out of my shift, visited with some of the girls down at the bars, and gone home (on foot) to a life in my parents' house in the community that I had grown up in. No; NONE of my peers (especially the women who interested ME) were to know who I hung my hat with when I hotfooted it from town to home. They already knew that I was unlicensed and that "work" was two part-time jobs. This WASN'T the life that I had dreamed about...

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS POST EXPLORES THE DEPTHS OF MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS; INCLUDING, TO SOME POINT, SUICIDE AWARENESS. September 10 of each year is World Suicide Prevention Day in order to raise awareness for mental health; especially for the signs of those around us who may be toying with the notion of suicide. I will have to get more personal than usual about this subject in this piece. You may read something that resonates with you; you may even read something that makes you feel uncomfortable.

BIRTHDAY WEEKENDS, CARROT CAKE, PIZZA PLACES, AND ANGELS
Last weekend, I celebrated my birthday weekend (yay!) A birthday weekend can be a tough notion to navigate once you’re in your mid-late 30s and still single; except A) my birthday fell on a Wednesday, B). Wednesday is one of my workdays, C). the “Pre-Birthday” Weekend in question was Labor Day when locals who had the chance would jump ship from town, and D). my greatest friends in town right now are either my “Brother Knights” (of Columbus) with wives and young families of their own or they work in the bar industry with absolutely zero time for shenanigans on the customer side of a bar over Labor Day Weekend.

37 Lessons From Last Year Alone...
1984. That’s a good ye… (Takes sip of...water; spit take). "I'm old." Anyway, I guess that you're never too old for another year to teach you some new things (and what better time to set a new calendar year than on your birthdate?)

OFF TO SCHOOL
Students! It's been a long time since class was in session in person. Perchance some of you are meeting new peers. For some of you, college is new to you. Worry not, younglings (and, to those of you who would have joined a campus community for the first time last year, welcome to THIS year; we are still so happy to have you); "Professor" Kent (GV class of 08; student from 05 to 10) is here with some hand helpful advice. Maybe some older "students" would wish to help you out too.

We, the Vocalites, SPEAK!
Wow; what a crazy couple of months the "Vocal" community has had! We have had our requests; and Vocal has been LISTENING! +So many of Vocal's contributors (namely, me) normally master in FICTION and needed an easy place to pigeonhole "Fiction" into the Vocal community (without always calling it "Parody," "Journal," or "Fact or Fiction"). Enter the brand new "FICTION" community and a summer's worth of challenges to promote it.
