The Broken Window Theory
* The following notes were taken from the writings of Professor N. A. Neon: The “Broken Window Theory” argues that the length of time taken to repair a damaged or broken window is directly proportional to the decline of a home or neighbourhood. Simply put, the longer a broken window is allowed to remain broken, the more likely it is that it will never be changed and the home in question will be allowed to rot.

What's in the Air?. Top Story - June 2023.
Some people say not to worry about the air; Some people never had experience with...air... - ''Air'' - Talking Heads I wonder about what David Byrne and the rest of the band would make of the Sunday that just passed in my adopted hometown/province. Perhaps they would have reminded us that the song was a warning about what can happen when you do not pay attention to what is happening around you:

Bryan Prince
Note: I wrote this several years ago when Bryan Prince, Bookseller, was voted the best independent bookstore in Canada in 2001. This was a very striking idea for my sense of my hometown. I was quite proud that it was being recognized (I sold my first self-published collection of poetry there). Unfortunately, they closed in 2018 after almost thirty years in the business (there is now a store called King W. Books there).

Underground. Top Story - June 2023.
Well, this really is a challenge. What I mean by opening with that line is, I had to choose a particular historical era to return to and then add to it my own idea of an occupation. I decided that I did not want to flit ahead to some future that I could not imagine without adding all the clichés of science-fiction. To head backwards required me to be honest about history and the circumstances that would guide my life. It would have to be something believable and real enough to tell a fantastic story.

My Summer of Pulp
A moment of clarity: I was at a café finishing up a rare Italian soda and trying to get away from the heat. The section I chose to sit in was rather empty and had a few shelves of books that have been donated by other patrons. You could take or leave whatever caught your attention. Most of what I found was romance, the worst sort of war narratives, and the usual airport fare. But I also found something that intrigued me: “Fletch’s Fortune” by Gregory McDonald.

Pilot, the Pilot
For my pitch, I would like to do a TV show about...pilots. I had better be clear about this one. I do not mean that I want to do a sequel to 'Wings' (although I was a fan of the show and always wondered where they would head next). I mean a TV show where every episode is a pilot for a new project.
