A Techno Carol (with Apologies to Charles Dickens) - A Story in Five Parts
Part II: It was a wonderful rest. Jimmy could not remember the last time he slept that well… “Beep, beep…” That must have been his Android…or tablet? He never used the alarm on his smartwatch or desktop, so he must have…

A Techno Carol (with Apologies to Charles Dickens) - A Story in Five Parts. Top Story - January 2024.
Part I: “Go to your room!” Dad shouted at him, but it was his mother who was in tears. Jimmy Curtis knew that this was serious when he saw what happened. The presents were being wrapped, and he could have waited in his room…but why bother? His parents knew what he wanted for Christmas, and here it was, Christmas Eve, and they were still getting things ready for the big day. So, why didn’t they get him the system he wanted? Why a stupid-looking 2.0 version of the super Benevolt gaming set? And no extra controllers for it? He had to say something.

Waste Disposal: A Love Story. Top Story - December 2023.
A little tale for the Hallmark crew: A long time ago…in a suburb far, far away… Stella could not help herself. All these years later, and here she was, back in the hometown that she promised herself she would not return to unless some special force pushed her in this direction. But here she was, guiding her SUV through the narrow streets of snow, slush and new homes. Well, new-ish homes… She noted that the field where she played soccer was now all mansions and they had built a parking lot and a small jungle gym that she would have loved as a kid. So unfair, she thought, but there was nothing she could do about that.

I’ve Always Hated the Water
Note: I wrote this for a particular challenge, but I could not find the right conclusion for it, and it seems to be growing into something much bigger and bolder than I thought it could be. Any critiques or thoughts would be helpful...

Three Moments
I feel like there is something I should have been told… 1. I was on a social media site, watching a video related to racism in the USA. I decided to repost it to friends whom I knew would be very interested in the issues covered. I received a very pointed message from a former student. Apparently, I did not set them up with a “trigger warning”. This bothered me, and I made it clear that life did not come with one, I never received one when I was being mistreated over my race, and that the rest of the world did not deserve to be coddled and protected from the true ugliness out there. My correspondent countered with the idea that movies come with ratings, so why can’t I provide a warning much in the same way? Right, the movies… A system of ratings created by the same industry in order to protect their backs from the press and local government (Hollywood is always out for itself; it is a real show business). I really did not know what to say, so I did not say a thing. I just make sure not to share these videos with this student (and should I mention that we are of the same race?)

Madchester. Top Story - December 2023.
Do you remember Madchester? Maybe I am getting too nostalgic in my old age, but I have been thinking about that very brief gap of time when the city of Manchester was the focus of most of my attention, at least as a musical and cultural force. For a city with so many different bands and sounds in its history, it might seem strange to just pick one moment, but I am, as I said, nostalgic…and old. And I know that many of you have commented on how you like to hear about musical moments on my page. So, here I go again…
