Sink School
Note: I first heard the term 'sink school' - or 'estate school' - in an interview with a filmmaker who survived one. A sink school is a school that is noted for its underachievement. A drabble is a story that is exactly 100 words. I have decided to approach this as a file in a school's folder telling a terrible truth that is all too common.

Respect
There was only one rule: don’t open the door! Okay. He decided to obey. The master shut the main gate of the castle and left his servant beside the massive oak door leading to the basement. With the final bolt in place, he knew that the structure was secure with his duties.

Just my luck...!
This is my worst nightmare. I woke up extra early, fully rested. My bedroom was not too cold or too hot, and the yoga mat was already rolled out. All I had to do was a few stretches, push-ups and sit-ups (a new record: 30 each set), and then hit the bathroom. I noticed that I had more cereal than I thought and that the skim milk I thought I had to replace was still fresh. The coffee was also already percolating (when did I turn the machine on?), and my bag was packed (again, a mystery).

How Am I?
October brings out the best in me. I feel like I have to get things done just before we force ourselves to save all of that daylight, the leaves fall, and my students - once again - disappoint me with their midterm marks. It is also the first week after my birthday (now 51). I do not make much of a literal odd number like that, but I have something on my mind that needs to be handled.

Mind Your Own!
October has arrived... I feel it in the air after a very long and stubborn run of humidity and warmth that made many Canadians feel as if there was some sort of meteorological joke playing out among us. As we say, 'If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes...'. Something is always coming down the pipe. And change and surprises are very much on my mind as I write this.

Kendallisms
It’s another week of teaching, and I am stuck in front of my laptop trying to avoid marking anything. It is Saturday night, and I still think that I am taking a chance by avoiding all the grading I have ahead of me. But some things cannot wait. I am dealing with the stress of the college and the request that I add more to a schedule that simply cannot take it. My mind needs to clear itself of a lot of detritus and this is the best way I can think of, besides the guitar and the promise to learn how to draw. All that can wait. This has to come out.
