Note: I first heard the term 'sink school' - or 'estate school' - in an interview with a filmmaker who survived one. A sink school is a school that is noted for its underachievement. A drabble is a story that is exactly 100 words. I have decided to approach this as a file in a school's folder telling a terrible truth that is all too common.

Student appeared gifted in various subjects (Mathematics; English; Basic Sciences). In his first week at the school, he stood out from his fellow students and was seen as a potential scholarship candidate. There were also reports from the gym teachers that he did show great skill in football, baseball and basketball. Some students appeared jealous of his success and were upset that a newly enrolled student was showing such talent in various subjects. The loss of such a student reflects badly on all of us and hopefully we will be able to explain this to the press.

You managed to convey the complete hopelessness so well. Tragic. Great writing.

  • Jealous people do the most terrible things. Loved your story!

Somehow I don't think this is totally fiction.

A tale that is as plausible as it is commonplace, alas.
