Fox Hunt: Chapter 9
I dismount when I can finally hear the rushing of the falls. I'd walk the rest of the way, and give the horse a break; we had made better time than expected. With luck, I wouldn't be waiting too long for the militiaman I'd be working with to show up. I can feel my lips twisting in disdain at the thought of him. Priamos had assured me he was good, that he would be helpful, but it didn't change the fact I didn't want a partner. I was more than capable of handling this myself. Yet, orders were orders.

The Blood Alchemist; Chapter 10
The next day is rather uneventful. We keep to our quick pace, pausing this time for lunch. It's then that we decide we'll stop earlier than yesterday so we can hunt tonight. Tomorrow, we'll be too close to the city to risk splitting up.

Gilded Apples; Chapter 6
I'm not grounded, but I certainly can't go. I can't tell Nadia and Celine why I couldn't go though. I suppose I could lie and say I got grounded, but that would also require coming up with a reason why I was grounded. I end up going with the easiest lie I can think of: the dinner party. Nona was coming for the day and some guests would be coming early. Family obligations, blah, blah, blah.

The Chosen; Chapter 4
I'm on my feet in an instant as the screams continue to grow and multiply. The crowd begins to ripple away from the direction of the screams. I share a glance with Jaromir before leaping the table, moving toward the crowd. I was going to find out what was causing this.

The Next Death; Chapter 16
I sit on my bed, working on homework. Mom and gran had gone out together for the evening and Marc had gotten called in for another night shift. Dan would be here but Felicity had wanted to do something so they had gone on one of their impromptu dates. I didn't mind being alone. It let me get stuff done without being bothered, a rare thing nowadays. I wasn't technically alone though; Charcoal was lounging at my feet.

A Curse to Break; Chapter 7
I sit on the edge of the wagon, watching the men. Some relax by the fire while others stand about. I know more are milling about out of sight. True to his word, the man I had spoken with the other day who I had to assume was the leader hadn't locked me in the trunk again. Part of me hates how easily sitting silently and avoiding trouble comes. Years of practice had made it second nature.

Something Darker; Chapter 17
I allow my eyes to slowly open after the door creaks shut. That was the third time someone's come to check on me and the third time I pretended to still be sleeping. It's not that I wasn't ready to face them- it's their questions I'm not ready to face.
