Fox Hunt; Chapter 10
By the time I reach the next town I'm heading for, the sun has reached its peak. I study the town as I approach. It's small, smaller than the town I grew up in. I can see straight through it. In a town like this, I'm bound to be noticed. My jaw tightens in annoyance. This is not a town I want to go through. I'm sure to be noticed. Yet I don't have a choice. I had skipped getting supplies in the last town. After talking with that militiaman, I hadn't dared to stay longer than necessary. Of course, not getting supplies hadn't proved too problematic the first two days, but now I needed the extra supplies I should have gotten back in the last town. Hopefully, I was just being paranoid and they weren’t looking for me.

A Curse to Break; Chapter 9
I sit silently in the corner of my cell pleating and unpleating the fold of my skirt, trying not to think about where I was being taken or why I had been taken. I had no way of telling how long I had been down here. Lanterns were my only source of light and none of the crew had come down as far as I knew of. And there was still the matter of the captain's scowl. Why had he been scowling at me? Was I not what he had been expecting?

The Blood Alchemist; Chapter 11
We make better time than expected. Only a few hours after breaking for lunch, we can see Gorum. We pause on the crest of one of the many hills surrounding the town so Liv can study one of her maps. I watch her from the corner of my eye as hers flick between the town, map, and her compass.

The Next Death; Chapter 17
I stare up at the ceiling of my room, flicking my eyes to my clock for a second. Bearly five in the morning. Had last night really happened or had that been some weird fever dream? I glance over at my laptop. It's pressed back against the wall, but open, screen open to me. Slowly, I sit up, realizing I'm still wearing yesterday's clothes. I carefully scan my arms, there's no signs of any bites.

Something Darker; Chapter 19
Frowin nickers uneasily, prancing in place. "Shh," I sooth him, gently patting his neck, "It's alright." Another strong gust of wind goes by. If my hair weren't pulled back, it'd be a tangled mess by now. I look at Micah. "That storm is hitting tonight."

A Curse to Break; Chapter 8
The next few days pass without any excitement. I sit silently in the back of the covered wagon as we move during the day and at night, the leader now forces me to sit out by the campfire until I'm yawning. I still don't know where they're taking me. I can't muster up the courage to ask where I'm being taken; not that they were likely to give me an answer anyway. My dread grows with each passing day. I can't help but wonder if I am actually being taken anywhere. They could be taking me in circles for all I knew. Either way, the dread continues to grow. Why me? If this 'captain' had done his research, he'd know I was a useless captive. My family wouldn't pay much for me.
