In The Long Blinks

If I knew what I was doing, I would tell you too

There's streamers on the floor,

The echoes of glasses' clinks,

A coat still hanging by the door,

and I've curled up on his lap even as his eyes close in long blinks.

Don't stop your dreaming.

Through the mistakes and the ruins and the tears

You've been there for me,

And if I knew what I was doing I would let her know, too.

There's glitter on the couch,

A rainbow smear on your cheek,

A quiet throughout the crowd,

and your long blinks are lesser between.

If I close my eyes now, they won't open

again until the morning,

And I've left some things unspoken.

But if I knew what I was doing, I would let you know too.

My long blinks have caught me

This thing is catching,

And as I fall asleep I watch the paper plates with marinade stains.

Then think to myself that the mess needs fetching.
