Arachne & Her Sisters 3
—————
When I am in a state of hypervigilance, intensly fatigued and/or when I am experiencing intense anxiety, I often see spiders in the corners of my vision. This phenomenon is medically described as Hypnagogic/Hypnopompic Hallucinations. Combined with Allodynia and Cutaneous Dysaesthesia, which can often feel like painful insects crawling just under the skin, combined symptoms can give fair grounds for Delusional Infestation. The folowing poem Arachne and her sisters is my way of expressing the schemata, solidfying the image, and gaining control over what I know is real. The origin story of Arachne from Roman poet Ovid depicts a story about aiming high and being damned by the gods, a character who from all accounts, was an overachiever. She is cast into the form of a spider, forever cursed through all her iterations and generations in this crippled form but revived from death at her own hand.
