A Watershed Year
As with the coming of spring, there should be renewed hope that all things blossom by the warmth of the sun. Yet, the clouds of uncertainty hang heavily overhead. We find ourselves being led by a Banana Republic wanna-be dictator. It is without question that the American public were conned by a charlatan who is nothing more than an narcissistic egomaniac with delusions of grandeur. Trump has made a mockery of the office of the Presidency. Not to mention has turned the United States upside down with his rendition of public office. Still, we have members of Congress that are incapable of recognizing how really dangerous President Trump is.

Coverup
They have always said that history repeats. As the United States continues to fall into disgrace with Trumpism being the order of the day it should come to no surprise to begin to see the similarities of what took place in Germany in the 1930s and what is taking place today. By order or decree Trump and the Republicans have already set in motion and by design directives that will be one of the most insidious objectives our government has planned in our nations history.

Education and Morality
Education: Where would society be if there wasn't a system of education in place to provide the nurturing of the mind as well as the body so that any individual will be able to have the availability to gain the knowledge and the background necessary to succeed in life? A Democratic society's existence is solely dependent on the education of all the population. Our Democratic Republic can only succeed and thrive when there is a certain degree of excellence within in the educational systems that are in place. For, without an educated society, civilizations will revert back to the cave of the Neanderthal. The book The Lord Of The Flies is a great description of what happens when there is one definitive order or no laws of civility embedded in the minds of youth; a prime example of what happens when the education of a society no longer is justified as being essential but is directed toward a self-preserving role of rule.

Inside Out
Is it too late to say you're sorry America? When Ben Franklin stated when asked what kind of government was created, his reply was "a republic if you can keep it." Profound, yes, and yet all indications today point that we have lost sight of what Ben Franklin said. When government becomes to self-serving in a way that is counter-productive for the greater good of all, that government ceases to be democratic. And, like Ben Franklin has said over 250 years ago ,"if you can keep it," somehow over the course of six decades, we have lost the democracy out of our government.

Against All Odds
Throughout history it has been proven that where there is acute poverty there is corruption in governments. Where there is corruption in governments there is only a perpetuating vicious cycle of economic depravation within that society. In recognizing this fact, it is a beginning to fuel the resources that are needed for solving man's afflictions that are the cause of the most acute crisis of the 21st century.

A Matter of Survival
We are entering an increasingly dangerous period in the history of mankind. Our world, our oceans are so precariously close to causing unimaginable, catastrophic disaster for all life on planet Earth. Ever since the dawn of man all of humanity has survived on various sources of food. But the one source of food that has dictated the rise of all the others came from the world's oceans. Today, our oceans, our food, and man's own existence depends on the vitality of life and the sustainability of our oceans to maintain and support that vitality of life. So catastrophic the demise of the vitality of life in all the worlds oceans caused by mans selfish and aggressive instincts all life on this planet is indeed in jeopardy. The depletion of the vitality of life in our oceans has been sharply increasing every year with no apparent reversal in sight. Just within the past 50 years mankind has wrought humanities own survival into question.

Crisis Education
For some time now, our educational system has been awash in too much controversy. Having the current Educational Secretary heading the Department of Education has not done much to improve the nation's overall prospects that our children will achieve a higher degree of an educational experience that will prepare them for the jobs of today and tomorrow. The reality facing too many parents is not whether to send our children to charter or private schools, but to face the fact that public schools have been on the decline for many years now. Consequently, for the youth of today, too many won't and can't receive that degree of quality in their education. Now, with the current policies in place, there are very little options left for parents concerning the education of their children. We also have to really consider a whole set of demographics when we take into account the quality of education in the United States today.

Common Ground
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for nations to come together for the common good of humanity. When over sixteen thousand scientists recently agreed on one aspect of the future of our planet, mankind has to take heed and recognize the severity of our predicament in relationship to our world around. No longer can we sit idly by and let greed take precedent over common sense. Our world is fast becoming inhospitable due to our continued lack of concern for the future.

The Hour Glass
As the sands of time flow downward the sea of change continues to ebb. It ebbs not with grace but with a velocity of a coming tsunami. The world that I once knew when I was young is unrecognizable now. Back at a time when memories were made has kept my compass almost on the straight and narrow. I lived through times of hardships and woe, experienced joy and adulation and through it all never have I seen what our world has come to today. Sure, there are scientific breakthroughs and technological marvels that have made an impact but, yet the world keeps shifting toward a more ominous outcome. Our world is more convoluted, complex and dangerous now.

Money
They say money can't buy happiness. That is not entirely true. In today's world in America and all around the globe, money is the predominate means to attain the necessities of life. Whether to buy food, pay for shelter, or just about everything associated with existing in today's world all depends on the availability of having enough money to do so. In many instances the lack of financial means puts individuals in very stressful situations. We can conclude having the financial means could very well equate to a person being somewhat happy. This is because when one has financial support behind them the stress level should dissipate. Were not saying that this is true for all individuals but, having money puts a person in a capacity to be able to use that resource to reduce stress associated with not having enough money to pay for such essentials as housing, food, or medicine.

A Wicked Game
There comes a time in practically every man's life when a simple smile or gesture turns into something more. In a split second, an infectious smile catapults one into a realm of reality that is completely unexpected. For me, it was the spring of '89 when that infectious smile took me by surprise. Little did I know back then that this woman held me captive all that summer long, while she played a wicked game where I would be the loser in the end. She went away with another and I was left alone yet again. I can still feel the pain of love's depart. But it was out of a chance meeting those many years ago where her infectious smile caught my eye and pulled at my heart. They say that love can blind a man so as not to see. But for me I didn't know that a wicked game was about to be played on me.

Monster Mash
"Once upon a time a midnight dreary I ponder weak and weary," just like the macabre writings of Edger Allen Poe. It kinda reminds me of those monster movies we used to watch when we were kids. You know the Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi flicks that always came on TV mostly on Saturday nights when television was so young. Whether it was Frankenstein or Dracula and others we were all entertained. In more than one instance as kids we tried to make a real life monster, just like the Frankenstein movie we watched that previous Saturday. We literally turned our parents garages into "Laboratories." On so many occasions the Saturday night monster movies were showcased by Soupy Sales who hosted Shock Theater. As kids we begged our parents or did anything just so they would let us stay up to that ungodly hour of 10 o'clock when Shock Theater came on. Huddled under blankets ever so near to those small TV screens, we were glued to the tube as they say until the very last.
