The Greenback
When the Kingston Trio came out with their rendition of "Greenback Dollar" with the lyrics saying, "I don't give a damn about a greenback dollar I spend it just as fast as I can," today, half of that phrase is actually true. Too many of us continue to spend that greenback ever faster though. But, what we do care about is why that ever-disappearing dollar doesn't afford the things it used to. We do give a damn about every last dime that comes into our possession today.

The Audacity of Leadership
For some time now, there has and continues to be such audacity of our leaders to presume that they have done no harm to the American way of life. In sharp contrast to their rhetoric, the United States is no longer the embodiment of the land of milk and honey and land of opportunity where anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Today, too many don't even have bootstraps. The livelihoods and freedoms we once knew have been silenced by the political whims of the powers that be.

Is This the Shape of Things to Come?
As the soft gentle summer breeze flows, it is hard to imagine all the horror taking place in today's modern world. It seems mankind has really done it this time. Many of us especially baby boomers have fond memories of carefree summer days and whatever harsh realities existed then were really a world away. As sheltered as we once were, we have now come to realize how much misery there really is in the world around today. Now, the sun is setting on the twilight of my years and in my solitude visions of fleeting memories cascade through my conscious thoughts. As if it were yesterday but yet so far away was a world that today is so unrecognizable and different as night is to day. I tremble at the thought that this is the shape of things to come. For those of us that have made it this far where we have reached the golf cart reality, something I thought I'd never be, I have come to realize just how fortunate so few of us really are.

When Coffee Was a Dime
The world when coffee was a dime seems so distant now. The turbulence of the times mirrors much of the events that occurred almost like it was 86 years ago. Even though much has changed, much remains reminiscent of the times when coffee was a just a dime. In the 1930s, the world was filled with so much despair, woe, and misery. Sadly though, history always has found a way to repeat events that have played out before. And today the times are not that much different for millions when all you needed was a dime for that cup of coffee.

The American Experience
The American experience for those of us who are over 50 today is filled with apprehension, anxiety, and a feeling of frustration that our golden years won't be so golden. This is no more apparent than in the today's workforce. Since 2007 there has been over a 20% increase in the number of age discrimination suits that have gone through the courts. Instead of maintaining a work force that is experienced and knowledgeable business today are weeding out workers that are 50 and over at a rate unparalleled in our history. Take countries like Australia for example. This countries business climate is the exact opposite of what is transpiring here in the United States. There, as well as many other countries around the world when workers reach a certain age they are looked upon with more reverence and respect for they are the ones who have gained knowledge and experience that automatically comes with age. They are the ones who know what is needed and required with the ability to produce goods and services with the quality that ensures public and customer satisfaction. It is the older workers who contribute the most for the continued success and growth of any business.

When Time Marches On
Ask anyone when they reach a certain age if they are more fearful or less adventurous? My guess is that the older one gets the more apprehensive and fearful with each passing year we seem to be. When we were young there seemed to be no boundaries of the things we were able to do. As kids, we climbed trees, built tree houses, and essentially were impervious to injuries or low-level pain. But, now as we have matured and finally entered the golf cart reality of retirement, we realize we are not as young and spry as we once were.

Human Rights?
Today, our Republicans in congress and the Trump Administration are quite apt in forging a complete antithesis to the preamble to the Declaration of Independence. For that matter, in no other time in our history has there been such an assault on human rights by a Republican run congress and a very ill-equipped President and his cabinet. The continuing debacle that this Administration has made not only here at home and in foreign affairs has made America's decline in world standing almost irreversible. But, the latest travesty condoned by this present Administration in their immigration policy where thousands of children are being ripped apart from their parents in an effort to deter Illegal immigration has become a typical response of the mentality of this Administration.

Against All Odds
It is quite apparent that the DNC, as well as the most of our political leaders, continues to be oblivious to the real crisis facing America today. Not only are they noncommittal to the mounting inequality, but are intent in duplicating the travesty of the last Presidential Primary. Need we remind everyone of what happened in New York, Puerto Rico, and in so many other states where the DNC purposely committed voter fraud in denying Senator Sanders's bid for the nomination?

The Torch Has Been Passed
In all through those years since the late 1960s, the United States has evolved into a nation that ceased to learn from the lessons of the past as to what made America such a the great nation. This was the noble experiment democracy; a republic under God, one nation indivisible that our founding fathers entrusted to future generations. Sad to say that today our founding fathers would look down upon this nation and probably say "What the hell happened?" No longer are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness available to all. It's the more affluent, the wealthiest few are the only ones that benefit the most today.

Slow Swimmer
In the twilight of my years I often remember a simpler time when life moved slower with peace and grace. Many a day I often strolled along the shore path of the lake I called home for so many summers when I was young. There in the peace of the morning when the sun first began to shine it's warmth upon to cool still waters I often notice this lone slow swimmer. From a short distance from the path I was on this gentle figure whose slender grace poised a most breathtaking sight. The beauty of her figure matched the ease of her tempo for her rhythm was like gentle waltz. Her gentle sway as she swam was like the rolling waves that rolled on in. Her locomotion moved me to a completely different reality.

Crisis Mode
Due to foreseen events, the world has become a meaner, more hostile place. Trumpism has given credibility to the madness. The lust for power and wealth by men have always given way to the anguish so many suffer. And too many suffer still. The words of Thomas Jefferson have no place in the America we see today. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, well, it is suffice to say they have all been taken away. They have been replaced by an oligarchy rule. An oligarchy rule that has tarnished the respectability and shattered the credibility that was our birthright when our founding fathers first penned the Constitution.

Revolution
Today, we live in a world filled with deception, deceit, and lies. The United States government continues to perpetrate gross injustices on the public. Sadly, though, there really hasn't been a unified effort to make our government accountable for all the travesties they have imposed on the American citizen. Remember the 99 percent movement of just a few years ago? That protest never got organized, for if it did, maybe, just maybe, things would be a little bit better today. It is the public, though, that have been so indoctrinated in accepting whatever the government mandates. There have been countless numbers of unfunded mandates imposed on the American citizen, all of which have put financial strains on practically every American. That is just part of the issues facing us today.
