"Hey Mom. I Never Told You This Before, But...”
Dear Mom, When I was a little girl I lived in fear. I didn't feel safe unless you were there. Later, As a teen, I didn't want to spend time with you as I was too busy drinking and using drugs and spending time with friends. I regretted that time spent away from you when I had children of my own.

What Was The Solution To My Living In Long-Term Recovery?
"I'm Denise and I am a woman in long-term recovery." I use this as a means to share my recovery story. I needed to respect the anonymous program I have been involved in for 43 years. The respect has to do with not talking about the program at the level of press, radio, or film.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
I received training on FAS/FAE back in 1976. I was told that we were the experts in the country as the information was only brought into the country in around 1973. We were told that there were very few others informed about this condition. No one was making the diagnosis yet that they knew.

Mothers Day 2022
Are mothers perfect? Mine was not. I was not and my daughter is not. I knew my one grandmother for just a short time and I have heard stories and to some, she appeared perfect. I know that just wasn’t true as no one is perfect. Not mothers and not fathers.

Who We Are Communicating With Can Make A Big Difference
Young people can have a whole different language. Think of rap music. Is the language different? Old people can use language like cool, which some think sounds like a fool. So many conversations and sayings give our grandchildren a look that says, say again! You sound like a broken record, can’t be translated to a scratched CD! My granddaughter did not know what a record player or record was.

Taking A Look At What You Are Doing By Talking, Writing With Pros and Cons Lists
I am writing to be writing. I used to only read on Medium but without a membership, it didn't count toward anyone making money. When I started Vocal it was because I was interested in writing now and not simply reading. I love that I can read on Vocal too.

Addiction Demands We Stay Negative
Addiction? What kind of addiction? Alcohol? Drugs? Food? Shopping? Spending? Relationship? Sex? Gambling? Plants? Wait, plants? Obsession and compulsion. Yes. I don’t want to get into any of that. Negativity is not the way to go. Staying positive is the best for me.
