Porto Venere: A Cultural Gem on Italy's Ligurian Coast
Porto Venere Italy is one of my favorite countries to visit. During our last trip, we had the pleasure of discovering the city of Porto Venere in the province of La Spezia on the Ligurian coast of Italy. We have visited many towns in Italy but none left me with such a culture shock as Porto Venere, even though I love this little town and its people.

Years of Loyalty: From Employee to Independent Contractor, Now Unemployed
And so it happened. After 26 years working in the same place, with 17 years as an employee and the last 9 years working as an independent contractor, my services are no longer needed. I knew it was coming. I felt it in my skin every time I stepped foot into the office. It was just a matter of when, so I am not surprised, worried, or sad.

The cost of living has risen and there seems to be no ending near. Many people struggle to get by and some have even taken more than one job to keep afloat. We are in the same situation as many. Cutting expenses here and there as much as possible worked for a bit, but not for everything. He Was With Us in Spirit
My Son Was Moving In December 2022, my husband and I helped our youngest son move to another state. It was a career move, and we were so happy and proud of him. We were driving across the country some 2,268 miles west to the state of Utah. My husband and I both helped my son pack his belongings. I, along with my son, went through the many clothes in his closet that he no longer wears. As he decided to either keep or donate, we came across a t-shirt belonging to my oldest son, Richie, who died in 2007. I remembered the shirt but said nothing about it being his brother’s T-shirt. As with the others, I asked, “Keep or donate?”

What Is A Mystery Shopper? Companies use mystery shoppers, secret shoppers, or evaluators to evaluate if the company’s standards are being met. To keep it short, I will refer to them as mystery shoppers. They want to know in what areas they need to improve to offer the best customer experience ever. They also use this method to evaluate their employees thus allowing them to offer incentives and promotions to good employees. Therefore, they hire people, through a third party, to visit their store as a regular consumer and give feedback to the company. For that, they compensate and/or reimburse you for any expenses incurred.

Awakened by a Spirit who Saved my Son’s Life
A True Story I am no stranger to spirits. Spiritual or phenomena activities have always been a part of my life. Not that I look for these phenomena to occur, they just happen. My husband is aware of it and has never judged or doubted me. Some of these experiences have left a lasting impression on my mind, and others I have forgotten about. But, there was one that I will never forget because it saved my son’s life. Here is my story.

Losing the Weight is Never Easy but It's Necessary
I Am Overweight! I began my weight loss journey on October 11, 2022. I am not the heaviest I’ve ever been, but I don’t want to get there either. At five feet eight inches tall, 200 pounds is not good for me. I was a skinny child, teenager, and young adult. After giving birth to my youngest, I maintained a good weight of 150-155 lbs. That was until my thyroid decided it was going into lazy mode and no longer working. Dang it! How I wished there was something I could have done to prevent it from happening. It seemed the method I was using to lose and maintain an appropriate weight was no longer working. Nothing seemed to work then and now. To top it off, there are not many exercises I could do since I am on a CAM Boot for a torn tendon. Therefore, walking was out of the question. The weight probably made the tendonitis worse. The stationary bike is my best option right now.

I love writing. I can write about anything, whatever my imagination fancies. It helps that I am observant. I learned to observe and while doing so, my imagination runs wild with ideas. Heck, I wrote a small children’s nursery book regarding a cup I saw on the street while waiting at a red stoplight! Besides writing for a few online platforms, I write books and self-publish on Amazon. As well as take on any opportunities I find to submit my stories. Such is the case with this year’s Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas book, The Magic of Christmas.
