The Protector
It’s been 10 years since the bombs dropped. 10 years since the flash that took her sight. In the years after the world turned on itself pillaging and destroying everything it could. If it could be taken it was taken if it could be burned it was burned....and everything burned. The evil that led to the dropping of the bombs was only a precursor to what was to come. In this world the strong survived on the flesh of the weak, and the rest either served or were slaughtered. You would think in this world a blind girl wouldn’t survive.... like many before, you’d be mistaken.

A Charity For The Heart and The Sole
In life, sometimes the path we thought we would go down changes into a path we were destined to go down, and when this happens, we can find our true purpose in life. I discovered this first-hand when I stumbled upon a need, started a charity, and dedicated my life to helping kids.

Heart & Soles
If you would have asked me, when I was kid, what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have told you a football player, or fireman. I had high aspirations of walking out onto that field and hearing the roars of the fans as they cheered while I scored the winning touchdown. Maybe instead I would be running into a burning building to rescue a family that was trapped, or rescuing little kittens from trees. All of these things ran through my mind, and I was determined to make one of them a career. Unfortunately, life happens. If you’ve read my other story called “My Hero”, which was submitted to the “Boss Mom” challenge then you’d know I was very sick growing up. I never could play football being as sick as I was, and even after I was cured I was too injury prone to ever make a career out of it. The fireman gig never happened either, and like many other people’s lives I found a different career for most of my life. However, if you would have told me that someday I’d be the founder of a charity that gives shoes to kids in need I never would have believed you. Funny how life works out.

My Hero
I am sure most people have a story about how wonderful their moms are, and how much she means to them. In fact, I am sure that every story entered in this contest deserves to win. So, in no way, do I think my story is better than any other stories you might read but maybe just a little different. However, in order to tell about how amazing my mom is I have to tell you a little bit about me because my story only exists because my mom sacrificed everything to make it happen. Without my mom being the embodiment of what a superhero truly is I would not be alive today to tell you about her. I am sure that no matter how detailed of a story I write I can never truly express the depths or lengths my mom went to, or the sacrifices she made, to make sure I had a chance in this life. She is not only my hero, but the epitome of the selfless nature all moms represent to their children.

The Golden Seas
I love this painting. Something about it soothes me from the inside, and calms my mind. I can stare at it all day long, and it never seems to get old. Even the name “Golden Seas” has such a calming demeanor about it. The majestic wooden ship, with sails drawn high, gliding above the powerful ocean waves with the sun barely peeking through the clouds. You could invent a thousand stories to go along with Charles Vickery's beautiful piece of artwork, and boy have I ever.

Poisoned Paradise
“This way for your table,” the host says as he smiles at the couple in front of him. The girl, a cute American in her early 20’s with curly blonde hair who obviously had never been very far from home, has her arms wrapped around the arm of a handsome local boy. She had dreamt many times about doing this but had always talked herself out of it, but now finally she was here.
