CFL Week 14 Recap: Sinking Ships
You know, I had been looking forward to this all season. It had been hell for the Toronto Argonauts in the East Division standings. We could not catch the Ottawa Redblacks. Labour Day in Hamilton was an absolute disaster. Yet we could at least save face in the final week of the heart of the season. This was the first meeting between the Argos and Redblacks. This was our first chance to get things done and make a dent in the pursuit for at least second place in the East Division. Smooth sailing, right?

Explaining My Love-Hate Relationship with Soap Operas. Top Story - September 2024.
Ah, soap operas. In the immortal words of an iconic comic strip character, "Good grief." I'm just going to be blunt. I hate soap operas. To me, they're all the same. The storylines are often way too ludicrous and over the top, as is the acting. Stereotypically (especially decades ago), there were always the same twists: someone always had an evil twin, or some relative that we had never seen before pops up and causes all sorts of chaos, or my favorite--someone popping up after being killed off!

MLB Pennant Race 2024: Do You Believe in Magic?
While many were enjoying the first of 18 NFL Sundays in the regular season, Major League Baseball's home stretch marched on. The first week of September came to a close, and after Sunday's action, the 2024 season has just three weeks--21 days remaining. Nothing really changed; of course, none of MLB's 12 postseason berths were taken, and only two eliminations commenced. Per usual in September's opening week, the eliminations were expected: the Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins were both eliminated on September 3. Both teams are in their 32nd seasons, and in that time, the Rockies only reached the postseason five times--including their pennant win in 2007. The Marlins have only four postseasons in their history, with the first two resulting in championships, and they reached the postseason last year.

A Look at the 1986 New York Mets
Say what you want to about the New York Mets (and many baseball fans do), but one thing is for sure, when they show out, they show out in grand fashion. In 1969, the team's eighth season in play, the team was down big in the newly formed National League East, but they came back, finished first, and won the whole thing. Four years later, they were down big again, but they rallied their way to another pennant; that was their famous "Ya Gotta Believe!" season. Now, it had been tough for the Mets after that, but 1986 saw everything click for the franchise.

South America's 1st-Ever NFL Game Was Definitely One for the Books
I do love that the NFL continues to branch out and play their games all over the world, and they're continuing to play in new cities across the globe. Regarding this year, it was announced months prior that an actual NFL game would take place in São Paulo, the most populous city in Brazil--the largest country in South America. The teams participating in this historic game: the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.

NFL Kickoff 2024 Recap: Game of Inches
Football is back, baby! I'm a die hard hockey fan, but I know very well that there is always something extra special about the NFL season. Among other things, it's mainly because the NFL season is so short, resulting in a very long offseason that is only interrupted by the Draft, the schedule announcement, and of course, preseason. Nearly seven months in-between the final seconds of the Super Bowl, and the first kickoff of the following season.

CFL Week 13 Recap: Labour Has Rewards
Labour Day Weekend is always a big deal in the Canadian Football League, and this year was no different. The Labour Day Weekend games are often important, but this year, it was especially important for those in the West Division, which, well, has seen better days. Entering Labour Day Weekend, the Saskatchewan Roughriders led the West Division at 5-5-1, even in spite of a five game winless stretch. Would the Riders continue to get away with skating by?

The History of "Saved by the Bell" (Part III: The New Class)
On May 22, 1993, the original Saved by the Bell run ended with the core sextet donning their caps and gowns and receiving their high school diplomas. That episode marked the end of the original TV series, though the saga with that group continued on with two telefilms, with a continuation series, Saved by the Bell: The College Years wedged in between. College Years premiered right after the graduation finale episode, but that was not the only bit of continuation that the series would receive.

There are a lot of intriguing storylines in the month of September, which is the norm on this very pivotal month.

A Look at the U.S. National TV Coverage for NHL Teams in the 2024-25 Season
With the 2024-25 NHL season on the horizon, this was originally set to be my first hockey story in preparation for that year. A couple of days ago, I was on Instagram and found a post from Daily Faceoff, a site that discusses hockey, and I saw a pic that detailed the number of national TV games in the U.S. for each of the NHL's 32 clubs. In any league, it is always an honor to be on national TV. Of course, the NFL is the only one of the main leagues who doesn't do the regional sports network (RSN) thing, instead using regional coverage for early and late games on Sundays. MLB, the NHL, and the NBA do use RSNs, and they do save national coverage for select days.

A Look at the 1985 Kansas City Royals
Kansas City. The largest city in the Show Me State. A population of just over half of a million people, almost double that of St. Louis. Yet when it comes to sports, KC has often been the little brother to St. Louis. In the NFL, Kansas City did win the battle of Missouri, but only because St. Louis lost two franchises while the Chiefs went on to become a dynasty. St. Louis did have the Hawks in the NBA before the team moved to Atlanta, and the NHL's Blues serve as the state's lone team, and won a Stanley Cup in 2019.
