Off With Their Heads!!!
Disclaimer: All quotes in bold are taken from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, 1865. “But I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked. “Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.” “How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice. “You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

A Quick Guide on New York City's Most Fashionable And Entertaining Streets
New York City has its many perks including being the city that never sleeps. This is the part of my hometown I miss most since I moved to Jersey City two years ago. Nothing ever closes in NYC and there is a 24 hour store for everything. Meanwhile, only 20 miles across the water in Jersey City, you are lucky to find a bodega open at 9pm. Because of NYC's late nights and early mornings, shopping and nightlife are two of our biggest attractions. I used to work in Gap on Fifth Avenue and the tourists used to go crazy over the sweatshirts with the Gap logo across it. Gap was/is considered high end in Europe so our store was always busy and crowded. I used to love engaging in conversation with the customer, learning where they are from and what shocks them the most about New York City. I met two eighteen year old girls from Alaska, leaving their state for the first time for one of their birthdays. I was elated to guide them to some cool spots and add to their first adventure in this fun, exciting, new city. Even though the outer five boroughs are receiving more attention, Manhattan is still the main attraction.

Where were you on 9/11?
I don’t know how as teenagers we did it, but having to be at school for 8:00am did not seem as much of a chore as having to be at work for 9am as an adult now. That could be because work is like an antisocial campaign where too much laughter gets you called into the office and school is the epitome of teenage social life. High School was the place where you had all your friends, wore your best outfits, and had the most fun, most of the time. High School was not enjoyed by everyone and just like everyone we all have that one memorable story.

On Repeat
My doorbell rings and I jump out my computer chair to happily go answer it. My husband and I have been craving Chinese food and tonight we finally ordered some. I put on some pants because who wears pants when they are home? A special note to all delivery people: If you ever wonder what takes us so long to get to the door, we are putting on some pants and chances are, they are never where we think we left them. I grab some cash from the drawer and run down the two flights of stairs to grab this food. I jump the last two steps making a thud noise, alarming the sensor light. The delivery man is peering through the door’s small glass window. I must have taken too long looking for my pants.

Bon Appetit
I never would have thought house hunting could become frustrating. This is the moment I have always dreamed of since I was a little girl. I did not fantasize of a big wedding or marriage, my dreams were filled with big, spacious homes, yards, pools, closets, and pets. My name is Magenta, I am a Manhattan native and that is all I need to say for you to understand my perception of living spaces and why my dreams consisted of homes and not boys. Boys were everywhere and accessible, affordable, spacious homes in NYC were not. It was just me and my mother growing up in a one bedroom, one closet apartment in the Lower East Side. We shared the bedroom together up until she passed when I was 19 years old and by this time I was already in college completing my biology degree. Losing my mother has been one of the toughest times in my life so it was only natural that it took a while before I could give up the apartment we had shared my entire life.

Texting and Writing
The way we communicate in 2021 has significantly changed from 50, 60, 70 years ago. We are in the age of technology; the beginning of those advanced futuristic movies that we never get to see, the calm inventing and advancing before the technological storm. For a writer, like myself, who best expresses herself through writing, the age of texting is welcomed. If I get into an argument, please give me a moment while I go outline my main point and sub arguments before I hit send. I am constantly going over in my head things I’ve said and resaying them in a million different combinations wishing I had more time to think my answers through and say something differently. If I take too long to respond to a message, it’s very safe to assume I am rough drafting my response and it’s being edited before publishing.

Do You Hear What I Hear?
I am a Miami girl born and raised in Little Havana. My parents are Cuban immigrants that came to this city the same age I am now, 22. They had me at the age of 30 and my sister at 32. They struggled to do everything right and by the book so they weren’t stereotyped by all the negative connotations associated with being an immigrant. They became citizens, established their business, all while raising my sister and I. Majority of our community are fellow Cubans, but the city is just as diverse as the rest of Miami. I speak Spanish, but you couldn’t tell over my American accent unlike my parents. We blended in well and focused so much on being accepted in America that we never travelled outside of Miami. My parents were strict, but my good grades and honors gave me some leeway with them. It was not until I was older and able to travel on my own that I began exploring outside Little Havana expanding to outside of Miami to neighboring Florida cities.

Aliens or Cops?
Meet dumbass Darius. That’s my nickname for him because he’s always doing something foolish and there’s no other explanation than being a dumbass. For example, we have been planning this heist for months and by we, I mean, Darius, Domino, and myself, Rico. And of course, dumbass Darius messes up something! Me and Domino have been friends since diapers, I taught him how to potty train, even though when you ask him, he claims it’s the other way around. We became friends with Darius when he moved to Flatbush in middle school. We saw he was about to get his ass jumped right outside the park and we decided to help him. We found out the reason for the almost ass whooping was over a girl. We saved him that day and have been saving him ever since.

What Is This Trying To Teach Me?
One of the key ways to elevate your mind, body, and soul is to change the questions you ask yourself and the Universe. The question of why is irrelevant most of the time. Change the why question to what and you may begin to see a change. Every obstacle is a lesson and every quarrel is a chance to learn something about yourself and the other party, if any. This is one of the most powerful lessons I have learned that has power shifted my way of thinking.

Vision
I can't believe they convinced me to go on this blind date and this isn’t any blind date. This is with Everald Howard III. His name sounds strong and royal. It is pronounced like ‘emerald’ , just replace the ‘m’ with a ‘v’ (this is how he always introduces himself, like royalty). He is the new lawyer at my best friend’s firm. Once on board at the firm, he was very open about being single and ready to settle with a Queen who has her own throne. All the women there, both my best friends, are happily married. I was the only one left, so naturally one thing led to another and here I am driving to downtown Brooklyn to have dinner at Horizons, a beautiful seafood restaurant with live music, right on the edge of the water that switches to DJ by night. I could see myself letting loose and dancing with the man if the mood stays right. Look at me already letting my guard down if he makes me laugh a few times and isn’t arrogant.
