Bio
Aspiring etymologist and hopeless addict of children's fiction.
If I can't liberally overuse adverbs and alliteration, I'm out!

Being Gentle On Myself Means Following Navy SEAL Training. First Place in Sleep Resolution Challenge.
It's funny how in growing older, you're always searching for the next milestone, the next "big kid" moment: later bedtimes, later curfew, the ability to spend on what you want, the freedom to eat what you want—the opportunity to literally take a bite of forbidden fruit roll-ups instead of broccoli.

Humans Are Created Not Born
Sometimes you gotta be "fake to be real". A fact very few people know about me is that in 2012, at the age of 25, I gifted myself a rhinoplasty—and I felt more myself having contributed to the design of my face than anything else I've done before or since. My personal philosophy is that you only get one body, and if something about it doesn't feel like it represents who you are, and you have the ability to change it, you owe it to yourself to follow your own path and let haters be damned. And yes, kind readers, there were haters. Because despite the fact it was my body, I had a lot of shade thrown my way for doing what I wanted to do with it and a lot of criticism for being "inauthentic".

Life as an Empath: Finding the "Right Thing" to Say
Being at a loss for words is not something that happens often to me. I'm a writer, I think fast on my feet and quite frankly, I'm a chatterbox. But for some reason, when it comes to choosing words of comfort, I very often freeze, more so in person. For someone as empathetic as I am, it generally surprises people when it happens since I'm usually a walking, talking lump of caring things to say. But when things are really, really severe? Nope, I struggle...hard.

Mental Health in the VSS Issue 1
"Call Me Les" can feel like a juggernaut at times; I'm truly grateful for those who are and have always been in my corner. Haters gonna hate and between grief and being bipolar, I'm no T-Swift at "Shakin' It Off". There have been a lot of changes going on, not least of all the departure of my beloved friend and creative partner much too soon. Many of you know I've been meaning to take a small break and focus on myself, my writing and the magazine. But that's easier said than done; loose ends need to be wrapped up, delegation needs organizing etc. I'd like to take a moment to give a massive shout-out to my fellow admins, our moderators and members who have been pulling together. VSS and Great Incantations gain new members every day; each of you is unique and valued by your admins and I have to believe that so many positive vibes in one place can't help but be a light in the world.
