She stared through the plate glass porthole, her gaze locked onto Captain Duarte, who took laborious breaths, drawing life from the dwindling oxygen reserves of the faltering life support systems. The Neknur floated in the unforgiving expanse of space, its life support systems in shambles, particularly within the sealed-off cargo hold. Captain Duarte made the ultimate sacrifice, a testament to his unwavering determination to safeguard his remaining crew. Powerless, the crew beheld their leader as he succumbed to the inevitable.

As he attempted to focus his mental faculties, his memory resembled a chaotic jigsaw puzzle, with fragmented images clinging to the recesses of his mind, much like a distant fog on the horizon, hinting at the ominous secrets lurking beneath.

The lights cast dancing shadows across the worn furnishings, and the overall tone of the corner pub screamed mediocrity. The space, while accommodating for a handful of regulars with tales etched in time, remained far from suitable for larger gatherings.

Another lifeless body lay before him, and another faceless soul fool enough to battle one of the Never Enders, discovered the eternal dream. The nameless swordsman now joined the ranks of countless mortals who defied those who can never die.

It reactivated. The sensory input overwhelmed it at first. Processing the multitude of unknown sounds needing categorization became the first objective. It completed this task in half a second. Lighting levels changed in random patterns, making vision difficult, but it overcame the obstacle with indifferent efficiency and obtained vision again. Adjusting to lighting conditions proved to be another simple task, and the once foreign noises that created confusion formed a pattern. It remembered the idea of language within the massive memory stores of its consciousness. From what it ascertained, it had been confined within a wooden container. Now that it was becoming fully aware, the container became laughable. The wooden crate was useless as a means of confinement.

Rick called it a strange name Daniel never heard of, and as a result, ayahuasca was the word repeating in his obsessive mind. Where Rick acquired the narcotic made Daniel curious, but in reality, it didn’t concern him. Rick’s greatest strength was his talent for obtaining what could or should not be obtained.

Stan the Man
My birth name is Stanley Waldon the Third. Stan for short. The kids in school used to call me Stan the man. I hated it, but they called me it, anyway. "Stan the man here, just pissed his pants in front of the entire school!" "Stan the man got caught eating glue!" "Stan the man has cooties!" Kids are awful. I never once heard a "Good job, Stan the man!" So, it's not surprising the same nickname found its way into my current job or any other place I found employment. It rolls off the tongue. You can't help yourself, like when you're tickling someone and they want you to stop, but you keep going. People think it's funny or that they're being real clever by saying it. I never thought it was funny. Or clever. It loses its novelty after someone says it to you for the thousandth time.
