The Mask of the Happy Man
The train was full as he stared down at his phone, texting his wife he'd be home late. The bubbles appear, indicating she's replying and he stares blindly at the screen. "That's alright, I'll change the time of dinner to 18:15." And with that he releases a sigh. He gets off at his stop and walks down the road, darkening with the overcast of winter.

GPTZero: Part of the Problem? . Top Story - May 2025.
I have seen multiple discussions about running work through GPTZero in order to test for AI content and I can honestly say to you that this on the surface is a great idea, but please don't be naive when you think that it will always give you a correct result. Also don't be naive to think that AI hasn't developed past GPTZero's capabilities...

Book Review: "An Immigrant's Love Letter to the West" by Konstantin Kisin
"The history of humanity is a series of unopened tombs which hold not only stories of our past, but also stark warnings about our future" - "An Immigrant's Love Letter to the West" by Konstantin Kisin

Book Review: "Three Burials" by Anders Lustgarten
It's late March 2025 and my mental health has been here and there. I've had stints where a lot of my hair has fallen out and others where I no longer get hungry enough to eat dinner in the evening. Be that as it may, I still find a joy in reading books and writing about them. This is probably one of the few joys in my life at this point and I really did want to share this important book with you. I didn't expect it to be this way at all and now that I've read it - ist seems a lot better than just its blurb. Let's explore Three Burials by Anders Lustgarten.

Book Review: "How to Sleep Well" by Dr. Neil Stanley
It's March 2025 and I believe that I'm in an okay place mentally even though I have not been for a while. Have you ever been stressed out but you have actually no idea why? I mean, there's so many things it could be but you don't know which single factor it is. My hair has been falling out quite a bit lately which means that I've literally been shedding hair everywhere: in my apartment, on the bus, everywhere else. If you're reading this in the present (which at the time of writing this would be the future) then I hope I've sorted myself out. Anyways, since I haven't been sleeping well, here's a fitting book I read...

Commencement Speech
The job market is worse than ever and you've probably heard other existentialist threats about your prospects. From the arts students out of work, to the science students judged on where they went rather than on what they can do. You're entering a market where it is basically impossible to have any quality of life without a degree according to the politicians. But here's the thing: the money isn't always the greatest thing about the work.

My First 12 Hours...
As you guys may have realised, I have been made one of the admins of our wonderful Facebook group. Now, I'm not going to say too much because of the fact I know there are certain people who subscribe to my account who, let's just say if there was a button to block them, would no longer be subscribers. However, here's a review of what I have found over the last 12 hours in the most comprehensive way I can find through connecting the dots. I will try not to make this too long winded or purposefully obtuse.

Book Review: "The Only One Left" by Riley Sager
I've been trying to read more Riley Sager and well, so far it's been alright. I do have a few questions for this book concerning the ending but of course, I'm not going to put spoilers here so we'll leave that out. It's currently April 2025 and at this very moment, I am on my third cup of coffee after spending the morning finishing this book following a terrible night's sleep. It was so weird because every time I tried to get to sleep, I couldn't so I sat up and tried to read more of my other book. As soon as I would start reading, I'd start nodding off. But, when I went to actually put my book down and go to sleep - I lay there awake for most of the night. Ultimately, I gave up. And so, first thing this morning I decided to finish this book I was reading...

The Twitter Question
We've all heard the modern adage of how spending five minutes on Twitter (I will not call it X) will make you want to take a two-by-four to Elon Musk's head. It is very clear that the website is not all it's cracked up to be and absolutely nowhere near what he promised it would be and so, like the group of nicer people they are: those who wanted to actually talk to each other flocked to other places. This left Musk and his bot accounts to fester in the wild - which became an entirely new problem of its own.

Book Review: "How It Is" by Samuel Beckett
You might be wondering about why I'm reading Samuel Beckett and I'm going to be really honest with you here: it was cheap. Shopping for used books makes me feel good because books which have a label of costing Β£10 or so, suddenly go down to Β£1 to Β£3 each. Not only do you feel like you're getting a bargain, but if you've got Β£10 to spend on books, you can now get several as opposed to one and you get to support some great second-hand bookshops. However, you also need to be careful with second hand bookshops. There has been times where I have ordered a Saul Bellow book and received and entirely different Saul Bellow book - so there's a weird issue. I have no idea how common that is.

Book Review: "Hermit" by Chris McQueer
It's April 2025 and I have to be honest with you, my back hurts from carrying shopping right now. I'm getting a bit on edge because my Hello Kitty pen is running out of ink and it's my favourite pen so that's upsetting. As you can probably see, there is nothing of worth going on in my life right now and yet, we are back with another review. Hermit tells the story of a young man caught in the web of the incel community after meeting someone online. Dragged into the depths, we see what happens when you don't open your mouth against someone who is trying to influence your actions and opinions. Chris McQueer writes an interesting analysis of what is actually going on in these strange segments of the dark online world.
