Just A Dream
My bed is gone. The world has gone white. I can’t see the moon, but it reflects off a million snow crystals making the world just bright enough. I look down at my frozen toes and let out a scream. The sound is completely swallowed up by the snow blanketed forest. My boots have been ripped away by curved black claws. My pants replaced by mottled grey and white fur. My knees are bent the wrong way, and my thighs are pure muscle.

Mental Illness and Marigolds
I stood under the autumn tree in our front yard. The colors were constantly changing, just like mom’s mood. They went from loving green to fiery red in a heartbeat. I watched as she knelt by the flowerbed. Her hands were covered in dirt, like they were every fall. Unlike every fall though, they shook violently as she tried to pull weeds. The marigolds she planted every year were withered and dead. Her mind was somewhere else, and flowers were not a priority this year.

Barns and Heavens
Gretchen stood just outside the crumbling door frame. The faded red paint cracked and peeled away from the wood siding of the ancient building. The windows were busted, littering the overrun grass with shards that threatened to cut anyone who got too close. The sliding door hung awkwardly, the rollers rusted and broken now. She could hear the floorboards straining to hold their own weight. The harsh wind whistled through the multitude of cracks in the walls.

Peace of my Project
For me, peace of mind does not come easily. I’m a twenty-one-year-old, single, working, mom of two who is trying to do COLLEGE. No matter what I do I’m busy. If I'm eating, I'm feeding a baby at the same time. If I'm sleeping, I'm sleeping next to a toddler and a baby (they sleep in my bed.) I can't remember the last time I used the restroom or took a shower alone. I get my nails done sometimes...with a 9-month-old in my lap, and my two-year-old in the chair next to me.

Apocalypse in my Mind
My head throbbed as I pulled myself out of my would-be grave. I collapsed onto the edge of the pit that should have been my maggot-filled resting place until the Earth reclaimed me. Sitting up, I looked over my body. I let out a groan at the sight of myself. Blood-stained rags for clothes, a rusty heart shaped locket around my neck, and rotting flesh all clung lifelessly to my stiff bones.
