Harper's Hill, Chapter 5: A Town Filled With Faces
Fall in Harper's Hill was always beautiful, even on the East side of town, where there wasn't too much that looked all that pretty. Travelling over the hill during Fall was nice, because Emily got to be at the top of the hill and see all of the trees changing colours. The forest looked like it was on fire. But it was also bittersweet, because she knew that Winter was coming, and she had a hell of a time with the big hill when it was covered in ice.

Harper's Hill, Chapter 4: Susie Q
Emily's grandfather, Edgar, was reasonable and fair while he was alive. He had lived in the East side of Harper's Hill long before the divide of the town, back when the area was booming. However, that means that he watched it go down, too. Growing up and seeing this decline, Edgar decided to get a job in Redwood Valley at the lumber mill.

Harper's Hill, Chapter 3: The Knocked-Over Flower Pot. Content Warning.
Emily's brother, James, had always been very protective. As a child, he felt the need to protect his mother and his sister from their father, Ray. He didn't even like admitting that Raymond Pierce was his father, but some people from the East side of town would still remember the trouble his father caused, and then connect the last names.

Harper's Hill, Chapter 2: The Glimmer of the West. Content Warning.
Emily knew that there was no reason for her to feel anxious when she was on the West side of Harper's Hill. Like her brother had said, she was good at making herself seem like a nobody. People ignored her that way, and in the West side, she was the only one that wasn't trying to stand out.

Harper's Hill, Introduction: How The East Was Exiled
The arrival of the railway was crucial for many towns in Ontario, Canada in the late 19th century. Harper's Hill used to be a railway hub, connecting to larger cities in the area and facilitating the transportation of goods and people. Harper's Hill is quite literally a big hill that is surrounded by town all around. It's in Central Ontario — West of Parry Sound, North of Barrie, Southeast of Ottawa... somewhere in the middle there. This means that it's not on any coast, and there are no lakes. You have to drive if you want to get to fresh water, and you may have to drive far.

Rediscovering Self-Worth Beyond the Screen
When I used to search up the profiles of the girls I went to school with, years later, I would always feel like a failure. I can't tell you how many girls in my graduating class that are now married, or have children, or have a house, or just have... so much more than I have.

Why I Want to Quit Social Media
I was born in March 1996, putting me in this weird space between Millennials and Generation Z. Actually, in the movie I watched last night, the main character referred to herself as a "zillennial." Maybe that's what I am. Either way, I cringe at the thought of fitting myself into an era-specific box where I can only like certain things and hold specific opinions.

Lessons from a Broken Friendship
A few years ago, in the dead of night, I got a message from a friend. She was in a bad place, pouring out her heart about the chaos consuming her life — troubles with her boyfriend, the impending loss of a family member, and feeling like everything was falling apart.

The Intimate Struggle with Mental Wellness in Relationships
In the first romantic relationship of my life, I found myself drowning. Apparently the detectives called it "a perfect storm." It was 2016, I was a month or two into my third year of university, and I was struggling immensely with my mental health. Then I met someone who introduced me to a new world that I had never known before, and it wasn't a world that I wanted to be in. A world where love didn't feel like love, it felt like control. Love felt like I didn't have a choice.
