A heartwarming fable about courage, friendship and the hidden strength of those we overlook.

The Lonely Rabbit Who Saved Them All
BY:Ubaid
Far away from the bustling town of Sawira Ali Abadi, nestled between green fields and gentle hills, there was a small hidden village—a village unlike any other. This was not a place for humans. It was a village built entirely by animals, where creatures of every size and shape lived together. Deer, monkeys, leopards, rhinos, parrots, elephants, and even kangaroos called it home.
Life in this little settlement was joyful. The animals had created a sense of community, dividing themselves into groups based on what they ate. The grass-eating animals formed their own circle, the meat-eaters kept their own proud company, and those who enjoyed fruits and leaves stayed together as well. Within these groups, there was laughter, teamwork, and endless chatter.
But there was one exception. One creature who never truly fit in.
That creature was the rabbit.
Unlike the others, he didn’t belong to any group. He was the only rabbit in the entire village. Too small to hunt with the predators, too different from the grazers, and too overlooked by the fruit-eaters, he lived on the edges of the community. Whenever he tried to make friends, he was brushed aside. “You’re not like us,” the others would say, dismissing him as unnecessary, as if he were nothing more than a leftover piece in a perfect puzzle.
The poor rabbit often talked to himself to fill the silence. Over time, loneliness made him a little irritable, and his temper short. But deep down, he still longed for companionship.

The Danger Arrives
One day, news spread to a nearby town: permission had been granted to open a brand-new zoo. The managers were eager to fill it quickly. Someone whispered to them about the hidden animal village, “If you capture that place, you’ll have every species you need—all in one stroke.”
The men began their work under the cover of night. Slowly, silently, they surrounded the village. With strong bamboo poles, they built a massive enclosure and draped heavy nets over it, sealing off every possible escape. By the time the moon climbed high, the animals were completely trapped.
The zookeepers congratulated one another. “The animals cannot escape,” one man said. “Let’s go home and rest. At dawn, we’ll return with trucks and cages.”
And so they left.

Panic in the Village
When the animals realized they were trapped, panic swept through the village. The leopards tried to claw the nets, the elephants pushed against the bamboo, the monkeys swung and pulled—but nothing worked. The nets were too thick, the walls too high.
At last, exhausted and defeated, the animals sat in silence. Fear weighed heavily on every heart.
Then, the rabbit cleared his throat. His voice was small but firm.
“If you all promise to be my friends,” he said, “I’ll find a way to help.”
The others scoffed. “Don’t waste our time. You are too small. We need real strength, not silly promises.”
Hurt but not discouraged, the rabbit went quiet. But as he looked around at the frightened faces of the animals, his heart softened. Despite their rejection, he couldn’t bear to see them captured.
So, while the others sulked, the rabbit crept to the edge of the net and began to gnaw. His sharp little teeth cut through the ropes faster than anyone had expected. After he had sliced through two or three strands, the animals noticed.
“Wait—look! He’s doing it!” cried a monkey. “Hurry, rabbit, hurry!”
The rabbit paused. He wasn’t going to let this chance slip away.
“Only if you promise,” he insisted. “Be my friends. Otherwise, I might as well wait for the zoo. At least there, I’ll find other rabbits.”
The animals had no choice. “Yes, yes, you’re our friend! Now hurry!” they begged.
Satisfied, the rabbit worked quickly. With determination and tireless effort, he chewed until the ropes loosened. Soon, there was a gap big enough for escape. The monkeys widened it, pulling the torn edges apart, and the animals began to slip through one by one.

The Great Escape
Leopards darted out first, leading the charge. Deer bounded behind them, parrots fluttered toward freedom, and elephants followed close behind.
But trouble came when the rhinos tried to squeeze through. Their massive bodies got stuck in the netting. The rabbit stamped his foot in frustration. “Honestly! Do you ever stop eating? You’re too heavy for your own good!”
Yet, with a sigh, he returned to work, gnawing more ropes until the rhinos finally pushed their way out. At last, every animal was free—except the rabbit.
He sat alone inside the broken net, his fur bristling with anger. “Of course,” he muttered bitterly. “They’ve all run off and left me behind. After everything I did for them, I’m still alone.”
Just then, a group of kangaroos bounded back. One of them called out, “Rabbit! We’re so sorry—we forgot you in the rush. Come with us!”
Before he could reply, a kind kangaroo scooped him up and tucked him safely into her pouch. Together, they hopped toward the safety of the distant jungle.

A New Beginning
Far away from the danger of the zoo, the animals settled into a new home. This time, things were different. They remembered who had saved them when all hope was lost. The rabbit was no longer an outsider. He was given honor, respect, and—most importantly—friendship.
The lonely days were over.

The Moral
Dear friends, the lesson is simple: never underestimate anyone. Every being, no matter how small or overlooked, carries a special gift. Sometimes, the one we ignore the most is the very one who can save us all.
